Coffee shop cake sizes?

I suspect that the glass in coffee shop display cases is slightly magnified to make the cakes look bigger. Just got a cheesecake slice in Cafe Nero and doesn’t look the same size when on the plate.

Anyone else suspect this?

Can't confirm or deny as i wasn't witness to your cake in cafe Nero

What i can say is,the size of cake slices served in most cafes and restaurants are considerably smaller to the portion size I would serve myself at home

The local independent coffee shop is not like that, the portions try sell are quite generous.

You are so right. I would always prefer an independent but I’m in a shopping mall and it’s only the chains.

No, but I'd rather have a smaller slice and pay less! You could make a cake for the price of one bit

But I may be on the verge of exposing a cake selling scam. Deliberate use of magnifying glass in display cabinets to give an exaggerated impression of size.

Size does matter.

National Trust do good cake and a decent slice but its about £3 for one. It makes me nearly cry, but it is cake, so must be bought. Just get 3 spoons and everyone has to eat it quick or lose out

I've recently discovered the bakery section in Costco - to be avoided given I'm nearly at the end of my weight loss journey.

Try Oak Street cafe bar in Manchester

It's veggie / vegan for the most part too

oh and The Nakery in Liverpool, which again is vegan friendly

Do we use a Lynx can when comparing cake slices or usvthere another standard unit we should use when taking pics?

I often think about portion control especially mcdionakds fries! Doesn’t seem to be any way of checking the weight unlike alcohol that’s carefully measured and controlled.

Agreed. And as I stated above I would always prefer an independent. But, out of town shopping centre, only the national chains.

I find cake portions are too big from Costa or Nero.

I'd prefer smaller and cheaper slices as I can't eat a whole slice.
