Meh 70s for me ... no nose rings, hardly any tattoos ... no auto tune ... just fun stuff and people who could actually sing ... (rose tinted glasses maybe but I loved MY era)

I'm not stuck there fashion wise but I do often end up listening to 90's/early 00's indie/britpop. I think because it holds so much memories for me.

I own very little post millenium music, unless its been made by pre-millenium bands- theres very little that i find original sounding or interesting enough to buy anymore

Stuff i keep with me is late 90's early 00's punk rock such as blink 182, green day, sum 41, linken park, system of a down, good charlotte, slipknot, my chemical romance...etc, I listen to a bit of everything old and new but this is the stuff that always stay with me

Music died in the early to mid 2000s in my view. MTV doesn't even play music anymore. The only future 'classics' released in the past decade are probably going to be Ed Sheeran, Adele and that is probably about it. All the rest are just disposable and forgettable.

70s - rock n roll, early emergence of ska, punk, mods, glam rock, heavy rock, psychedelic rock but you also had disco and Elton John, The beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel...

80s - technology started to play a bigger role in production and instruments. Also hip-hop was born.

90s - Lots of different scenes reaching maturity and sub-genres emerging driven by cultural movements. Nirvana - grunge, Oasis - Britpop, The Prodigy - rave culture and manufactured pop was probably at its peak.

00s - Internet. Globalisation. Hello Drake, Hi Taylor Swift, RIP music.

I like to think of it this way - my musical tastes were forged in the late 70s/early 80s on TwoTone/Mod Revival/Punk/New Wave.

Those tastes then informed others both moving forward and retrospectively too - so things like Northern Soul/60s music/old school ska got thrown in along with Britpop etc

Along the way I got into other stuff as it came along to the point where today my music tastes are wide and varied and take in anything from Sinatra to Muse and Green Day to errr Doris Day!!!

The late 70s/early 80s stuff I mentioned will always be my first love though

Even though it was before my time, the '60s is the decade I often drift back to. I was listening to '60s music before anything else and not much else has quite matched up to it.

The era of my youth was the '80s but the very mention of an "80s classic" coming up on the radio has me station hopping. There were some really good bands around at that time but they were drowned in a sea of mush.

Definitely not. I love stuff from early AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, through Metallica, Pearl Jam, Kyuss, up to Florence & the Machine, Rudimental and Calvin Harris, with a bit of Glen Hansard and Mick Flannery also, so I don't believe I'm stuck in any era/genre

The problem with music produced nowadays is that there is no cultural context. There aren't any scenes to speak of to drive the music. Everything is bland and beige and disposable. Before we had punk, gangsta rap, rock n roll, acid house, grunge. On a surface level there might be some enjoyable tunes but they don't pack a punch nor contain as much (if any) soul compared to what came before.

In addition, music is now made largely from touring so the process is now very much business-driven. Artists need to be professional and fulfill their contractual obligations. In the past artists may have been allowed time to complete their projects and been given more artistic freedom. The rock and roll lifestyle made the music edgy and gave many songs authentic meanings. Now they are clean-living and the music is almost paint by numbers serving as background mood music to accompany adverts. Less kids are playing the guitar or piano these days. Instead they have macs and produce generic sounding tunes in their bedrooms. So sad we won't get another Elvis, Prince, Freddie Mercury, Tupac, Bob Marley or John Lennon.

So Grnadmaster Flash, Run DMC, The Wedding Present, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cure, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr, NIN, Janes Addiction, Neds Atomic Dustbin, PWEI, The Cult?..........The 80's were fantastic weren't they?

Amazing festival line ups with mixed genre bills. Prodigy, Pop Will Eat itself, rancid, beastie boys, smashing pumpkins, rage against the machine, Wildhearts, weezer, Ice T, Beck etc.
