I say breakfast, dinner, tea being a Yorkshire lass. He says breakfast, lunch, dinner and that tea is something you drink being a Soft Southerner. If it’s not dinner why were there dinner ladies at school???

Ha it is a divide. They’re not called dinner ladies anymore. Lunchtime supervisors now. To be honest being a northerner I say breakfast dinner and tea but as I live in soft southern land now it’s breakfast lunch and dinner.

Being a born and bred southerner with a touch of the north in me it has always been

Breakfast

Lunch/dinner

Tea, served about 4pm’ish give or take half an hour, consisting of bread & jam/cucumber sandwich,cake,tea

Supper.

If I’m going to eat out then ‘I’m going out for a meal’

I hope that’s clarified the issue!

You cannot eat tea. It's breakfast, lunch, dinner and then supper. Some education for some of yourselves. It's called dinner because on the olden days lunch would be the only hot meal children would get for the day. Hence dinner time. And before someone harks on about dinner ladies they are now called lunchtime supervisors. Plus the rest of the world call it dinner so let's move on to the 21st century! Kinky

Those of you that are having packed lunches today...

The women who stood in the playground were called dinner ladies.

Tea was something to be wolfed down about 5 o' clock.

Dinner was what posh people did on TV, in some posh restaurant.

South Oxfordshire

Growing up in Norfolk (with Londoner parents) it was breakfast, dinner and tea.

When I went to college to a catering course, it became breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I'm now more likely to say breakfast, lunch and dinner/tea based on who I'm talking to.

We have this discussion in our house.

I,from the very top of the Midlands (go north of my city you're in the north west region) say Breakfast dinner and tea, the other half, from south Birmingham, says breakfast lunch and dinner.

We actually looked into it. Depends on the area you live in. More industrial working class areas say breakfast dinner and tea.
