KIDLINGTON

So today is the start of a new journey in my life. I'm just about to sign up to further education and work towards an associateship in my trade sector. I've not studied like this for long time and as such I'm excited but also a little anxious at the same time.

It's the whole change in habits etc that I'm dreading but I know once I get started I'll be fine.

How have others coped with the change in lifestyle...

I took my professional qualifications about 15 years ago and keep them updated via an annual CPD report.

It did take some massive lifestyle changes and for a couple of years I didn’t really do things I enjoy like going to sport and gigs. Studying became central to my life and I made sacrifices.

I’m now enjoying the fruits of that labour as the letters after my name mean more £££ in the bank so I can indulge in more sport and more gigs and do more of what I enjoy outside work.

Good luck to the OP, stay focused because it will be worth it in the end.

I've worked with professional learners for a long time - from Chief Execs to apprenticeships - they all face the same challenges to be able to step back from the day job and learn.

My advice is 1) go in open minded - be prepared to learn new ways of thinking about things you've done a million times before, and 2) if you struggle with anything (time, study skills etc.) then ask sooner rather than later. There's so much support and experience available - just ask - and you can be sure you won't be the only one!

Good luck!

Good on ya! I am studying at uni part time and each module I start I vow to be more organised. It really does help but is hard but if you can don't leave stuff until the last minute! That's my tip.

Hiding in the shadows

Good luck OP

I went back evening classes for a year aged 30.

I knew I wanted a career change, and decided to resit all my old O levels.

I then spent my 2yrs maternity juggling 2 babies under 2yrs & full time college.

Onto Uni at 35

It was tough, but I loved the challenge & the opportunities it led onto.

Go for it
