"There's a news report that the royal mail is asking folk not to send crisp packets back to walkers unless they're in envelopes as they have to sort them by hand. Anyone joined in the protest about the non reclable packaging ? Should non recyclable packaging be returned to the producers to get them to replace with recyclable packaging?" My candid opinion is kind of I would like a repository which , one can send none recyclable stuff which is also not short term bio degradable And all products that contain said components should be taxed and the produce stored That said I'm not entirely sure we have the space for that and I'm generally in favour of gasification for energy , I think gasification of polystyrene in substitute for oil gas and or nuclear is towards the positive xxx however a specific not recycle not for landfill container would suit me I send less than 20 kg to land fill every six months but I do burn none recyclable plastics | |||

Simple and effective "Indeed it is silly , however sometimes some silly egg breaking can be enough to change an established mind set Even if this means more none recyclable product does go for energy production Because sadly at this moment established mind set is Bin, throw I actually think it fair and reasonable that not every product can be recycled but I do not think'it is fair or reasonable that they are thrown in a big hole and buried So If a few days pain in the ass , puts postal prices up , and causes less stuff to go into the ground going forward it was not bad However as a solution it is of course nonsensical | |||

"I'm of the opinion that the supermarkets should be forced by law to have nicely presented recycling bins in their entrance areas so that people can pull their trolleys over as they leave and strip all the fucking packaging off everything and dump it on them to deal with. Having to bear the cost of recycling everything would soon get them to stop putting everything in all this stupid packaging. There should also be a ruling to prevent them from passing these costs onto consumers. You packaged everything in all this crap. You deal with it "I'm not exactly going to disagree with you , however Who should will pay ? Why do they do it ? My supermarket offers food in both wrapped and non wrapped form and the wrapped form is already more expensive ? Why do the supermarkets do this , do you think they may have statistics regarding public demand ? Or if not the pretentious demand , the reality of consumer action? Sadly lazy humans love convenience and I'd suggest the statistics prove that wrapped stuff is preferred by most Now that's not to say they should not be persuaded to change but I'm not so sure the blame is entirely Tescos I detest 2 for ones as they also lead to waste but again public needs to be prepared to pay more for individual items Being ecological has a cost and pretending the public won't be paying (think Tesco share price , dividend and the fact all workers have a pension by law , and some of it will be in a Tesco like company ) | |||

Who should will pay ?
Why do they do it ? My supermarket offers food in both wrapped and non wrapped form and the wrapped form is already more expensive ? Why do the supermarkets do this , do you think they may have statistics regarding public demand ? Or if not the pretentious demand , the reality of consumer action?

"The thing I like about the recycle point on exit idea (which I believe is done in a few other countries) is that it allows those of us who want to be radical and chuck cereal boxes, punnets, decant liquids into our own glass containers, spooning jams into our own jam jars, etc. It allows for some to move to radically packaging free shopping. If I had that as an option I'd be as close to it as was convenient for me | |||

I can't think I was ever asked do you want your produce packaged in plastic it was more forced upon folkf..
I should say I don't by crisps however the news report I saw said walkers (part of Pepsi Co) produce 10m bags a day.
