It depends what it is.

Whistle blowers apparently have protection but it rarely goes well for them. Only get involved if your conscience won't let you do otherwise.

I whistleblew once went to my boss to report it nothing got done so went higher..turned out manager was in on all ,turned out other people there had a clue what was going off but dare not say anything in case of loosing their jobs ..lucky for for i had great support so i guess it depends on how you trust your company x send a annonymous email x

Its a grey area say you are a manager and its a food hygiene issue then you could be prosecuted but if its something that it can't be proven you know about then its unlikely.

I have a friend who had a similar issue and he ended up whistle blowing as his view was he didn't know if people were aware he knew about it and it wasn't worth the risk.

Unless you are a Director then no. A few hundred thousand bankers would be in prison now, if it was.

I’ve blown the whistle and ended up on the dole as a result!

I changed jobs and in my new role it was commonplace to change use by dates on fresh foods, the manager and supervisor instructed the staff to do so. I refused and said that if I saw it happening I would report them to environmental health, which I did.

Not surprising they ‘let me go’ at the end of my 3 month probation

Would I do it again? Absolutely!

I blew the whistle and the member of staff in question was held accountable and was fired. I’m still at the same job and love it so much more now.

Yeah I fought for a 'principle' and won. But it was a disappointment to see how people change around you. Also how desperate they can get. I could have stayed on and probably kept in solitary employment, but it was best to leave.

I'd do it again knowing I can win. All it needs is guts and determination and self belief.
