Given the numerous warnings over climate change, the health hazards of gases from car exhausts etc..

Is the setting fire to huge amounts of flammable material really in keeping with today.

Should it now be banned ?

We do need to look to re-purpose our spare materials in the most beneficial ways for our planet. Spare wood, for example, could help to provide other sources of materials or energy that have a greater benefit.

With the UK's pollution levels killing 50,000 people - or more - each year, we absolutely have to make sure that this is reduced as a matter of urgency.

Fireworks danger is a problem too, with a need long overdue to fireworks only being used in managed events - though this is separate from the ecological damage that's being caused

There is always a big bonfire and a firework display by us..

People travel from far and wide to see it..

I used to have a Catholic friend who saw Bonfire Night as a massive demonstration of anti Catholic feeling. She took it VERY personally.

I do slightly wince at seeing the mountain of pallets go up at our local ish one. (Have about 4 to choose from within about 5 miles all with a proper fire) I think of what I could get made from it all. But then its Fire, lovely hot burning fire and then I don't mind again.
