"Declan rice poor lad only on 3k per week has turned down 15k per week unbelievable I know it’s not a lot in the bubble of the premiership but West Ham ain’t world beaters and what makes him think he deserves 15k a week maybe West Ham fans think he deserves it I had to google him as I’d never heard of him " So if you had a feeling your boss was going to offer you a bit more money but the rival to their business was going to offer you more, you'd accept the lower figure. As you didn't want to be seen as greedy?

"I'm a West Ham fan OP and this kid Declan Rice is the best prospect to have come through our academy for years I would hate it if he was able to run down his contract and leave the club for nothing and join a rival like Spurs On the other hand we shouldn't be dictated to especially by a lad who is only 19 and think £30 grand a week should be more than enough to keep him. Its ridiculous that players like Ozil at Arsenal are getting £350K per week. There has to be a wage cap at some point" wages should be capped West Ham will probably struggle all season and you have a kid who thinks he’s entitled to a massive pay day 30k should be more than adequate for him who’s at the moment is an average player at a mediocre premier club west ham ain’t exactly swimming in money but I take your point on his contract get him nailed down as per norm West Ham are a selling club and he as you say is a good prospect will go on to bigger clubs ![]()

He has a point when others are earning substantially more for the same or less contribution. Take football and people's opinions about the inflated valuations out of it and put him in an office environment. Ask the same question why he gets paid less than his colleagues when he's doing the same job and often contributing more.....

I understand you don't have a boss, try and pretend for now. Another way of looking at what might be happening here. He will have an agent. The kid would prefer to stay at West Ham I'm sure but perhaps the agent has said 'so and so might be interested in you, you have to drop down a league but they are willing to increase your wage to ....'. Perhaps that's going on. I think agents fuck a lot of shit up but never for themselves. They always do well out of any wage increase, move, bonuses for appearance and so on. It's often the agent that's greedy before the player.

"Don't see anything wrong with it, it's called negotiating. He could get paid better elsewhere, so West ham either pay up or he'll go elsewhere. They've got a free stadium, shit loads of money coming in from the last TV deal. " west ham pay rent for the stadium so it’s not exactly free ![]()

We cap ours to £50k a week, no other league in the world has a wage cap and bye bye goes damn near every player in the premiership. For someone who's self employed you don't seem to have much grasp of market forces...... ![]()

"Its your right to demand the value of your Labour. " Funny how that doesn't aplly, for instance, to nurses or doctors for example. "We can save your life mate for £100K take it or leave it because the next guy will pay it". Society and it's values are fecked to be blunt and the sooner people realise that the better.

"There should have been a wage cap set 20 years ago. I remember when Roy Keane was supposed to be on 33k a week and everyone was up in arms about it. Now it's seen a paltry amount to be earning in the prem. There will be a stage in the non to distant future where clubs will go under due to wages. The current method of X% of turnover is the wage cap is weighted in favour of the big clubs anyway, and I'm not saying some clubs are fiddling figures, but there seem to be a lot of clubs selling out games but only 70-80% of the seats are filled " Very little of their revenue comes from ticket sales in the Premier League. Its all TV money.

However Liverpool have just upped Trent AA's wage to 50k a week and he is also 19 so maybe he thinks he can get 25k from someone.

"3k isn’t much for a prem player at that age, after the tax man has had his cut it will be closer to 2k and fair play it’s hard training and a restricted life." Premier League clubs are experts in avoiding tax. They often defer the wages for years to minimise the tax bill.

If your subbie gives you a fixed price quote and you accept it, that's it. If his wages go up while he's doing your job hard luck. He can put his rates up on his next quote. If he wants to go and work for someone else who'll pay him more, and you don't want to, off he goes. Seems simple to me. Same with footy players, they have a contract. They're free to negotiate a new one when the situation or market forces change. The club doesn't have to accept his wage demand, he doesn't have to accept the club's offer.
