There and to the left a bit

I honestly think it's going to be a close one this year based on what we've seen so far - you can usually see straight away 3 or 4 categories

The duffers - who will go out early or be kept on for entertainment value

The not bad but not great - who will slowly be picked off one by one as it progresses

The destined for the finals barring any disasters - usually 3 or 4 of them

The only obvious duffer this year was Susannah and she's gone - a couple of others (Danny, Ashley) have stood out at the other end but not hugely so over the others and there really isn't a lot to call between the rest - Katie Piper seems to be struggling but with a little more confidence could come good likewise some of the others.

It seems a bit flawed to have professional dancers on it ?

I realise it's a dancing show, but it's meant to be entertainment, i much rather enjoy watching the ones that start off crap, but actually improve over the shows.

Someone with no experience has no chance of winning, eventhough they might be the most improved.

If we wanted to watch professional dancers why have B-list celebs take part in the first place ?

Just have the hired ones dancing every week.

Also maybe a highlights show where you don't have to watch all that staged crap. That's just woeful.

Just straight into the dancing.

While I do think some of the celebrities that have dance experience may have a slight advantage - the fact for a lot of them that dance experience is a series of set moves for a pop video or similar doesn't necessarily help when it comes to more structured dances like on Strictly.

It's also worth remembering that the last two winners (Joe McFadden and Ore Oduba) both started from a position of never having danced before - so it IS possible to win with no previous experience

Of course - although as my other point illustrated the fact two non-dancers have won the past two suggests that musicality alone doesn't win it

Haven't watched it in years but I've caved this year. I suspect as usual it'll be the pop stars and athletes who win it.

I'd love to see it with normal everyday people (not big brother contestant types!) instead of celebs

Only one of the last five winners has been either a pop star or an athlete and that was Jay McGuinness so not from a band known for it's dance moves - the others have been an actor, three presenters and errr Abby Clancy who I'm not entirely sure what she's famous for other than being married to a footballer!!

Yeah I've often thought a show with normal everyday people would be good - trouble is (a) it probably wouldn't have the draw of a celebrity show and (b) most normal people with jobs wouldn't have the time required for training etc to become as proficient as celebs - if they did and there was a way of working it round work life I'd love to do it

Yeah I didn't mean they win, just meant they have an unfair advantage and maybe why they don't win as the public think the same.

The likes of Ashley will also have the confidence to do the sexy moves like in her dance on Saturday whereas a non dancer probably doesn't at first

I think the right person always seems to win at the end....but I am liking all of them at the minute now that the one I didn't like has been chucked out

At the end of the day it is really the public who sway the vote and often it isn't always about their ability to dance, it is about the personality and who they like.

From a dance point of view, if you have ever done any kind of dance, you will normally be able to learn a different kind of dance, more easily, than someone who hasn't.

Yeah agree with you - although I think danceability does come into it to an extent - you wouldn't get a popular duffer winning it for example

John sargent nearly did, in fact he left because he said he was in danger of winning it and that wouldn't be fair on the others

I always enjoy reading James Jordan’s vitriolic and generally miserable, embittered bastard twitter posts in tandem whilst watching Strictly.

You’ll all no doubt recall that he used to be a dancer on the show (before being fired) and is married to fellow dancer and all round sex pot, Ola (God, I miss her....)

His negative postings and incessant whinging coupled with a frequent, curious proclivity for ‘pimping’ his wife out for calendars and photo shoots, makes for highly entertaining reading

His negative postings and incessant whinging coupled with a frequent, curious proclivity for ‘pimping’ his wife out for calendars and photo shoots, makes for highly entertaining reading

JJ was very controlling about Ola’s costumes as I recall, pushing for more revealing costumes for her (do you remember the catsuit)? Interesting dynamic in the light of some things I’ve learnt about since being on Fab..

He always seemed on the cusp of brewing for a fight.

Yes I remember that catsuit! She's a very sexy lady though.

No argument from me there. My goodness! "

There’s a really good mix this year and I’m not sure I’m backing anyone as my emotional choice yet (the one I root for).

I have high hopes for them though, there’s already some really strong skills!

I always thought he was the controlling half, then I saw a programme with them in that didn't look like that at all...of course it could have been acting but they looked a very equal relationship.

Maybe he just likes his wife showing herself off....there are a lot of husbands about on this site who like doing that too

There and to the left a bit

Watched it on catch up tonight and not really sure I could call it - although the fact Lee scored badly may well see him in the dance off again - wasn't overly taken with the Fame routine either- not a lot to call between the others though. Standouts were Sean's Paso, *that* lift, Faye's quickstep and Stacey's jive

I watch for the dancing not the D list celebrity's, it makes voting on the dance rather then the celebrity easier.

I watched it last night because my daughter had realised one of her heroes Joe Sugg is in it. He wasn't that great but some of them are amazing considering it's still early.

I struggled with who the pros were, especially the Danny and Sandy dance!!!

Here’s a question to my fellow Strictly fans; Despite the shows producers promising every year to omit celebs with previous dance experience, this year we have at least two, (Danny and Ashley) who despite no apparent, specific Ballroom experience, will arguably nonetheless have a major advantage due to their augmented flexibility, sense of timing and previous dancing experience developed rhythm.

Seeing Ashley’s amazing routine especially with Pasha on Saturday and with the above in mind, is it really fair to the other contenders?

Thy views?

This is always a difficult one, isn't it? When we have actors, singers etc, the majority would have been to some kind of dance and drama school. You will often find those that are already very good, often don't get any better, where as the non dancers will often improve through hard training, these are the ones I have more respect for.Again, it's down to the public vote, who ends up in the dance off and some will vote for the celebrities they like, rather than their dancing skills

"Here’s a question to my fellow Strictly fans; Despite the shows producers promising every year to omit celebs with previous dance experience, this year we have at least two, (Danny and Ashley) who despite no apparent, specific Ballroom experience, will arguably nonetheless have a major advantage due to their augmented flexibility, sense of timing and previous dancing experience developed rhythm.

Seeing Ashley’s amazing routine especially with Pasha on Saturday and with the above in mind, is it really fair to the other contenders?

Thy views?

This is always a difficult one, isn't it? When we have actors, singers etc, the majority would have been to some kind of dance and drama school. You will often find those that are already very good, often don't get any better, where as the non dancers will often improve through hard training, these are the ones I have more respect for.Again, it's down to the public vote, who ends up in the dance off and some will vote for the celebrities they like, rather than their dancing skills "

I think the viewing public generally prefer to see someone coming from having little or no dance experience and then watching them grow into a really good dancer by the end. That's why I think celebs with some previous dance experience and who are good from the get go don't always win the competition. There's something great about watching a total novice on their journey, seeing their ups and downs and also seeing this love of dancing grow in them. I know that's what I prefer to see. It's all very nice seeing Ashley and Danny do these lovely looking dances but because you know they're not total novices it just doesn't warm the cockles in the same way it does when you see Kate for example stepping out from behind the newsdesk, putting on a red wig and pulling off a routine.

Think the first part sums it up perfectly - most actors/musicians will have some level of dance experience in one way or another either from drama school or simply learning a routine for a video - so you'd have to discount a whole chunk of celebrities to remove any kind of dance experience - and whilst there are similarities, as I said further up thread there's still a difference between learning a few moves for a routine in a musical or a video and the structured routines of Strictly.

As Samiss said too, ultimately the non-dancers with no prior experience tend to capture the votes ultimately though - think four of the past five winners have come from the never having danced before camp

So Rebecca Humphries, Seann Walsh's now ex girlfriend, has come out and made a statement, well written, IMO. Apparently she sat at home alone on her birthday whilst he was out canoodling with Katya!

Personally I think it sad no one does anything in private these days.

You're right, had they not have kissed in public, then this obviously wouldn't be an issue, it will to their partners though.
