Why do quite distinguished accents disappear when people start singing? Just listened to Joe McElderry who speak with a strong georgie accent, but when he sings it completely disappears - how does this work?

King's Crustacean

When they learn to speak they pick it up by ear from those around them.

When they learn a song it isn't sung to them in an acccent.
