I would ask this on the site with the blue bar at the top, but I'm friends with work colleagues and don't want them knowing I'm off for an interview.

So I'm seeking advise from you lovely fabsters.. I have an interview tomorrow; I was all set to wear suit - however I messaged the recruitment agent just now to ask about the employers dress code to be told smart casual - definitely not a tie... My smart casual selection is thin on the ground and I'm wondering if I should carry on regardless and wear the suit as I planned, or ditch the tie but keep the trousers and jacket, or find something in my non-existent smart casual pile that I can wear?

If you were the interviewer and were in smart casual, would it bother you that I turned up in a suit?

Just wear a gimp mask and crotchless trousers -you can't get more smart casual than that -besides if you fancy anyone there, they will know straight away.

I work for a company that is smart casual however I see this as subjective.

My role is customer facing and I will

Always dress accordingly, plus this

Is part of how I feel confident.

My best advice is dress according to your role and confidence, if a suit is part of what makes you confident, then that’s the decision made x

I will also add that I have never discounted a candidate because they were too smart....too casual absolutely!

Don't go too formal...

Standards are poor these days. They don't respect a properly dressed gentleman because times have changed.

Anything goes..."smart casual" (half arsed)

Wear a suit. Best way to impress and give a positive first impression.

Trousers, long sleeve shirt, waistcoat and tie with nice shoes looks great too

Wear the suit! Put a tie in your pocket so you can see how you feel about it when you get there. Good luck

Thanks all; I think the suit wins through and I can always ditch the tie when I arrive if they are on the casual end of the smart casual spectrum..

Suit and tie won't get you down marked but no suit and tie could going smart tells an employer I think you are work making the effort fir. Its a subliminal message and it works.

If you want to be hire you carefully should follow my advice.

First try to find the names of the interviewers.

Then try to find their facebook accounts, take their face picture and go printed it on a t-shirt.

For the interview wear a long coat that will hide the shirt. Once you've shaken hands, remove your coat and watch their facial expressions trying to understand why on earth you are wearing a t-shirt with their facebook pictures on it.
