In terms of franchise rogue one means star wars has at least two great films in its legacy (the other definite being empire). Blade runner has two masterpieces. So that probably pips the lot. Alien has 2 great films too. In a slightly more cheesy way so does terminator. I don't think any of the star trek, marvel, dc, x men films have been great. Although I did enjoy both the ant man films and you can't really deny batman begins was awesome. Monsters 2 was better than 1 imo.

For me, the best sci-fi films have been one offs. Interstellar. Oblivion. Edge of Tomorrow. Starship Troopers. Total Recall

but for me the recent Battle star re

make Galactica TV series that was on

sky a few years ago is my fav of all time.

The original Blade Runner movie is one

of my fav films ever and what go me interested in Sci Fi.

Battlestar Galactica was amazing. I love star trek, probably a bit more than star wars but I also like that too. TV seems to be the natural fit for sci-fi over film. So many good series, like those mentioned and the expanse.

If you like Blomkamps work I'd recommend watching some of the shorts on his "Oats Studios" channel on YouTube if you haven't already, a lot of them are just concepts or pilots for future projects, but most of them are better than full feature length films! Sigourney Weaver has a lead role in one of them too

For films, the two that were both excellent films and pushed the boundary of cinema and visual effects were 2001 and forbidden planet- without these Star Wars probably wouldn't have happened (with an honouable mention for Fantastic Voyage).

As a few have strayed in to TV world with suggestions- Red Dwarf and Babylon 5

Don't get too excited

Unfortunately you can't get rid of him entirely because he personally cedes powers to the emperor (why lucas why!!

). But he is relegated to a stupid creature who flails around in the background every now and then. Plus, they had the genius of dubbing over his voice with garbled grunts and then putting subtitles underneath. Which made it much more in keeping with the star wars universe whilst simultaneously enabling them to write better dialog for him

A remake for this has been hanging around Hollywood for some time. Bryan singer (X-Men) was attached to direct it before, just hasn't gotten of the ground yet.
