People THINK they can guage mood. I'd venture to say that in isolation of animation , gesticulation and tone that it's not really possible.

Unless someone states it clearly. Even a rant is not always in anger.

Posts on a forum will never reveal the true feelings behind the words, unless those created by a Pulitzer Prize winner perhaps.

As said, facial expressions, body language, tone and volume of voice are all needed when trying to gauge the emotion behind the words.

When I am angry, I try not to stay angry for too long, as it does not do me any good physically and mentally.

Usually the people I am angry with are not the ones that I can about anyway.

So they can feck off and ...

It was an example. I wouldn't go as far as good cos I think we cannot detect the emotion behind it. Humour? pathos ? anger ? sarcasm ? devils advoate ? No way of knowing.

Siren always tells me that I'm not very empathetic, and it's the same on here as I miss it completely when you lot are are pissed off at someone for something they've done etc.. I think I live in my own little bubble sometimes.

Still, it does have a positive - I have never suffered from stress. You have to care about something to get stressed about it, and I have a policy of if I can't change it, I don't fret over it.

When I was at school, my English teacher told me that I wrote aggressively and started coaching me, ie leading me, to consider my choice of words.

I was told to write what I thought, then read it, then change it, soften it, if I could spot what my teacher told me to look for.

Anyway, I passed my O level English language and English Literature, and I thought I'd learned my lesson well.

Fast forward 10-15yrs and got my first Manager's job.

I had to start writing reports as well as doing the usual supervisory letters to my staff, and letters to customers and suppliers.

My boss called me in one day to say that he'd received a number of complaints about the way I put my point across, and for the second time in my life I was told I wrote aggressively.

I don't know if my rambling in here over the last 3yrs have shown this side of my personality.

I don't mean to do it. I'm a confident person in some ways, although shy in others. I suppose I'm somewhere between introvert and extrovert. I don't have to be liked by other people for me to like myself, if you can understand that. I don't mean to offend people, but at the same time, I don't care if I do, depending on the subject of our conversation at the time.

Anger is merely an anagram of range.

Range is the spectrum of something or maybe someone's feelings that flucuate dependent upon circumstances at the time.

Everybody has opinions that range from quiet to subtle, from quick to useless and from calm to anger to ultimate rage. If everybody had the same thought process then life would be a whole lot different. It is so very easy to cast aspersions and be judgemental based upon an individuals' feelings.

Our anger issues are very much all temperamental thoughts that are easily accentuated by peoples' negative opinions about others or enhanced and embraced by positive attitude.

All too often people are getting castigated simply because of their 'take on things'. To add insult to injury because some are unable to 'fathom the situation' they corrolate an already difficult issue into a nigh on impossible one. We do not need to be angry but merely constructive with our choice of opinion.

Voicing your opinion is communicatively brilliant but at the detrimental expense of someone else's feelings is strictly incomprehensible.

An English teacher posted on a site I belong to that boys write aggressively and girls write passively, and its a challenge to get them both to consider the opposite way of writing. Not sure how true that is to be honest, but your post makes sense to me.

I tried English O Level 4 times, the first was 2 years after I arrived here to study, and got an U, then an E a year later, then another E 6 months later, then another U at the same time when I did my A and A/O Levels.

Good job I managed to acquire different English proficiency qualifications sufficient to allow me to take my place at uni! PHEW!

Great post. I think it's difficult to remain "angry" on a forum, partly due to a lack of actual confrontation. If we (collectively) look back on times when we have been angry with someone, it's because we are backed into a corner, (on the phone, in person), where it can be difficult to walk away. On a forum, we just have to take a deep breath and not go back to the thread, anger diminishes, into reasoning.

Perhaps the question is how does anger occur in the first place? Frustration? Deliberate baiting? Opposition of _iews (no offence _iew)? Reading the same 5 threads about "all xx are yyy"?

Each one of the above may promulgate anger, if the thread poster is then belittled, chastised or insulted without consideration of their own opinion.
