I have now developed a bug for walking with the occasional light jog while leaving a trail of puddles where ever I stopped to catch my breath and take pictures of waterfalls.

Can anyone recommend hiking spots in England and Wales with good scenery?

Snowdonia. The lake district, the peak district. From Liverpool, it ain't rocket science.

Somewhere In The Ether…

A budding Alfred Wainwright in the making?

In addition to the excellent choices previously mentioned, may I also recommend some of the UK’s most beautiful areas of desolate natural beauty such as Dartmoor and Exmoor.

Be sure to watch out for the infamous hound on the first one.....

Follow Offas Duke through the Clwyds, Heather and Hillforts, forests and rivers

Haha had to google who you mentioned then, I've been to Dartmoor but apart from stumbling on the various witch circles, as they danced enticed by moonlight unaware my gaze captured their bare breasts bouncing through wooded moors. They were no hounds to speak off although some nights when the fog descends you could swear upon the now standing hairs on one's neck something was chasing you.

Peak district. Went there on a school field trip when I lived in the Midlands. Loved it.

Horsham

You are surrounded by natural beauty.

As some have said you have Wales, just half an hour away from you.

A bit further away along the M62 is the moors, there is quite a bit of countryside round Ormskirk, Parbold, Skelmersdale and Southport.

Wait?!? Leave a trail of puddles? Where you stop to take pictures of waterfalls? What exactly are you taking pictures of op? Is this a cryptic reference to some bizarre outdoor watersport fetish or have I been on Fab too long?

too long, unless you go down the tantric sex route locked in a warm room with partner willing to explore and a taoist guide on positions. Then you'll be making puddles

The Dark Peak was my favourite as a young man, particularly Edale and Castleton and the views from Mam Tor, awesome caves too.
