I didn't like the idea of them when they were introduced, linear games are fine with me. Then Mrs Broken bought 2 (Zelda BotW and Skyrim) and I really enjoyed them at first, but then they become incredibly easy in the mid to late game. I feel like this is inevitable because of their format, which brings me back to why i wasn't keen on the format to start with. What's the point in investing all that time into building an awesome character when you could waltz through with one half as strong.

Anyone else felt the same?

There is an obsession in the gaming industry over the last 10 years with games being open world and ridiculously huge (along with the multiplayer obsession). There's so much to do in games like Skyrim and so many side quests which alone can take hours to complete that you lose track of the main objective of the game and eventually lose interest. The Witcher 3 managed to hold my interest all the way through including all mini quests, but it was an exception.

Witcher 3 is sort of what prompted my thread. Many reviews say it's better than skyrim but i feel like I've been burned by open world games twice and id be a real fool if it happened again. Just be honest, how hard is witcher 3 to complete? On skyrim I played the top difficulty and whilst it's challenging at the start, it becomes a walk in the park right at the time I should be using all the skills i built up. I don't want that again.

The witcher has some hard bosses but it's fairly easy to complete, where it really excels is the storytelling, voice acting and the sheer beauty of the game world, it's jaw dropping throughout and the attention to detail is the best I've seen in my 25 years of gaming.

To be honest, if I want a good story then I'll read a good book. I primarily play retro games anyway, because i saw the trend of games just becoming interactive films. It's only the fact that Mrs bought the games that made me play them, it was fun while it lasted but I'm off back to the 16 or 32-bit era for a challenge. Thanks for confirming my suspicions though.
