How many of you are also using walking as the main cardio and to count the calories burnt from it? I do and sometimes I walk 20000 steps, it is fun

I make sure I do a minimum of 12000 a day but often do more. I try and burn at least 2500 calories a day.

Surely it depends how fast you're walking

I bet there's a calorific difference between purposeful walking (walking from a to be) than just completion of steps (milling around as duties of your shift dictate).

I walk loads as I don’t drive, and everything is pretty much within walking distance anyway! I walk about 6 miles a day on average!

I did a 6500 step walk at lunch which was 130kcal approx. Then I ate a dairy milk bar which was 300kcal. Fucked it right up didn’t I!

It needs to be a brisk walk that gets the heart rate raised. Ambling around the shops isn’t as useful

A brisk 10 minute walk that results in a

healthy sweat is very good as a gentle cardio work out at least couple of times a day.

That is right it is. I mostly walk quick, as the more steps you do in the same time by walking slowly, you burn more

I walk alot with my dogs. I always walk fast and do big strides. Also on my feet at work all night running around caring for people. I think i probably burn off more calories than i eat some days

If you burn 2500 calories a day. How many do you consume?

I walk miles each day, but tend not to count.

I recall watching one of these science-made-simple programmes aimed at teenage kids.

Walking a mile or running a mile - which one burned most calories.

So they got two people, wired them up and did a test.

There was very little difference between the two in terms of calories.

True but it’s the hart rate that’s more important as you in running it will be much higher therefore more good for you

What happens if you don't do 12000 a day? Or 10k or 15k or whatever it's supposed to be.

But it depends more upon how far you walk!

If you walk the same distance at a faster pace, then you just walk for less time - you've still used the same amount of energy to move your body over the same distance...
