Grandchild created from dead son

Jump to newest

A couple harvested their dead son's sperm to create a child via donor egg and a surrogate. The couple's unmarried son had not given formal consent to have his sperm harvested and used to create a child in the event of his death.

He died in a crash and was found after 2 days. Sperm can survive for 3 days.

Not for me but it is their choice!

I don't think the son would be too bothered about the lack of consent

Not sure I would have even considered it at the time

I guess like a lot of parents who lose a child, they want (or need) something physical to link them to their loved one.

Good Luck to them

Gosh I'm not sure how I feel to be honest. Obviously it's great for the parents to have a grandchild,it's pretty selfish of them I suppose. How the child feels when they're older will be of concern.

I think it's crossing the line a bit. If he had put his sperm into a sperm bank, then there wouldn't be an issue. He may never have wanted to be a father.

I haven't read the report, but I'm surprised they managed to get his sperm without any consent.

Making the big assumption that you continue to have awareness of what happens here after you die and that you continue to care about it. I would be furious if it had happened to me as I have made an ethical decision not to have children even though it has caused me problems in relationships.

Just proves that the mega wealthy in today's world can buy anything they want.

Dr : I'm afraid your son is dead

Parents : Oh. Can we jack him off?

I think it's disgusting. Births and deaths are natural things and while it's sad their son was taken so young it is totally unethical what they did. I feel sorry for the child.

In the middle

I don’t like the idea of that at all, it is a tragedy that they have lost a son but to make a child for their own sakes does not sit well with me, it’s not even his wish it is theirs, no it’s does not sit well with me.

It would have been the furthest thing from my mind.....

But I don't think the child will complain about being given a life and we all deal with grief in different ways....so whatever my personal views I'm not going to criticise others for how they may wish to deal with their loss.

Odd time to think of it but grief does strange things to us. I’m not sure how they managed it without consent though.

My thoughts are around the child. Let’s hope the grandparents are around to explain their thinking. I need to read the article really.

Strange childhood this baby is going to have. Brought into existence not to be themselves but to comfort their grandparents by reminding them of their father.
