"Where did you hear that about the brace position?" It’s just rumour. There are other rumours about the brace position, another one is that it’s the best position to preserve the teeth to aid identifying bodies. The fact is, if you’re going to hit the ground at 500mph then no position will save you. Any impact past a certain speed means certain death, even if there are no visible signs of injury, the velocity on impact destroys your internal organs.

"How do people know whats a good way to croak it Who tests it out I don't think they physically test it, just theorize!" They test it in a pool with crash test dummies. The brace position in an aircraft is not there to save but to help keep you in place so you can be identified if there is a crash. It is very rare for a plane to crash but even more rare for any to survive one.

"Just had a random thpught as my kids returned from abroad the other day i asked one if they still do the safety thing Why do people say this has someone tested each method and reported back how do they know its quick or painless No-one can report back. exactly so how do they know" They don’t know, they assume and summarise using so called medical facts. Just like they don’t know how a dementia sufferer feels as no one has been cured of it.....they basically haven’t a clue so if you are in a non safe situation just expect the worse and quadruple it....

I wouldn't think it's quick or painless unless it snaps your neck fast.

"https://www.ranker.com/list/dying-in-a-plane-crash-what-happens-to-your-body/laura-allan There you go, lots of information about what happens to you during a plane crash. It’s quite matter of fact so if you’re a nervous flyer I’d avoid it. Some may be comforted to know that death would be quick and painless. " Thank You Doctor Bulgy Pants

"Guys. Please. Numerous tests have found that the brace position significantly improved the chances of survival. For a start it protects the head from flying objects. It's fun to have a laugh about it on the forum. But people should be in no doubt about adopting it in the event of a crash. It might save their life " Finally!

""A 2012 Channel 4 programme saw a real passenger jet deliberately crashed into the Sonoran Desert in Mexico. Three dummies on board were arranged in various positions: one in the classic “brace” position and with a seat belt fastened, one with just the seat belt fastened, and a third with neither. Experts concluded that the dummy in the brace position with its seat belt fastened would have survived the impact. The one which was not in the brace position would have suffered severe head injuries, while the one not wearing a seatbelt would have died."" That was a controlled crash at normal landing speed onto a runway as I recall. Be a different story if the plane nose dived into the ground at 500mph.
