I had this conversation with a friend the other day and it got me thinking. We all get bullied and sometimes its for some pretty stupid reason. What were yours?

For me, I got bullied for my last name (its very unique. If you want to know, pm me and I might let you know) and because I had quite large ears as a child

Being ginger. Not having the best clothes. Being short... The best one though, was being bullied because I was breathing. *eyeroll* Some folks were never happy.

Definitely a stronger person because of it but Too many people have suffered because of it and some poor people didn't even live to see the other side of it.

I never got bullied having two older brothers, one of whom would turn psycho if anyone else looked at me the wrong way lol.

I remember when the fat kid tried to bully my crisps out of me, my brother got wind and the kid found himself dragged across a field of cow shit after school.

Needless to say he never tried it again lol

For having an older boyfriend

For being ugly - I was bullied a lot for being ugly. I’m slowly learning to love myself and embrace my appearance but there’s still days where I can’t look in the mirror because I hate myself. I try tell myself three positive things about my appearance each day.

And my teeth. Stuff happened to me when I was little and all my teeth fell out at once. So they all grew in at once...and are awful.

And for having big boobs. I developed early.

I was relentlessly bullied for having big ears at junior school and sporadically bullied for that and not having all the "popular" branded clothes at secondary school, among other things that only teenagers could pick on people for. I was a sensitive kid so took it very hard at school, but as a result I'm a very thick skinned adult and have finely honed deflective wit if someone attempts to give me grief now, plus I'm a bit more physically intimidating than I was in school.

For a skinny ginger kid I got through school unscathed, it was plain sailing and breezy. Apart from the wedgie over my head incident, but that’s standard.

I didn't get bullied as such but I got the Mickey taken as I was relatively well spoken. Developed the worst cockney accent to try and fit in... think Dick Van Dyke.

I used to work with a woman who has a beard and none of the kids made comments until her last day. A six year old said ‘I never used to talk because I was confused. I thought you were a man, but your voice was so girly, I didn’t understand it’

I was bullied for a chunk of my secondary school life, different schools same wickedness. Unfortunately it has a lasting impact on you. It wasn’t the odd comment or action, it was intense, humiliating and overwhelming for a while.

What is has done is enable me to spot a bully at twenty paces. I don’t have any time for people that are bullies and I won’t have them in my life.

The best thing was a few years back I was on a night out back home and the lad who was the worst bully in my year who was known for being hard and having a nutcase dad to back him up, didn't dare come and speak to me till I said hello because he was genuinely worried I would knock him out over some of the things he did to me at school. It was a weird feeling seen as in school everyone was terrified of him, even 6th formers when he was 14/15. Hiding in the shadows

I was singled out at school for being tall & skinny.

Hard starting senior school, being 11 and a foot taller than everyone, including half the teachers!

I was then bullied for being good at sports.

I put a girl in the year above me nose right out of joint as I 'took her place' on several teams

She was always in a gang & they made my life hell.

I started kickboxing midway through her last year, let's say our one and only encounter alone left her regretting her actions.

For being flat chested now my boobs are bigger than their's.

Oddly one of the bullies has just asked me to be friends on Facebook

I sent a polite message asking if she remembered making my life hell and beating me up for having no tits and she did and apologised.

I was bullied for supposedly being gay, for coming from outside the area I was going to school, for being a loner, several reasons most of them thought up by narrow minded kids.

Wasn’t bullied as such at school - more as an adult in my job where people don’t like being told no so they call me a fat c**t.

School was more playful banter really. One lad called me tits. To be fair, mine were bigger than most of the girls for most of school

I was picked on and bullied at my first Secondary school; I was weak and mild mannered. Then one day in an unguarded moment when one of the chief bully boys taunted me, I "claimed him", school talk for meeting him at nearby lock up garages off school property after school.

I got there surrounded by other bullied pupils. He was there with his crew. I was so riled I hit first and he went down so hard I thought I'd killed him.

He did get up soon after; he never picked on me again.

Yes, even the adults who are supposed to protect kids from this think that. At one of the many meetings I had with teachers when our son was being bullied the deputy head asked me in all seriousness if I was sure it wasn't "just high spirits". That was the moment I realised that I needed to involve the police because the school was never going to do more than hold "no blame circles" and assemblies about being kind. That cuts no ice when your kid comes home with the exact print of a shoe on his body.

But isn't that attitude the one that seems to emanate from schools in recent years and up to today?

The powers that be always seem to hide behind a statement of "we have robust anti bullying policies" blah blah blah!

But if they did, then there wouldn't have been publicised cases of kids being bullied within an inch of their lives!

Schools seem to work on bullying is more akin to kids high jinks and boisterous behaviour but don't cut in early enough to prevent the problem getting out of hand and becoming worse.

He was very stoical at the time and we all supported him although at times it was awful. I came across a file with all the correspondence about things in it recently, reading it after all this time it all seemed almost unbelievable.

He's a well rounded man in his late 20s now with compassion, empathy and a successful career. I have no idea what happened to the boy who's jealousy caused him to physically assault our son for so long and I really don't care.

Primary schools are or were useless. There's too much emphasis on not blaming people and a fear of falling foul of political correctness.

Also if bullying is psychological rather than physical its much harder to deal with.

The Psychological effects ARE damaging! Two years ago, I mentioned in here that I was being bullied at work. I always thought I'd beat it, I'd get over it all and win.

I didn't & had a breakdown, finally walking out of my job. I managed to get some professional help which worked in part.

Two yrs on, I still have some issues but recently my GP's Senior Nurse recognised the signs & has referred me to local Mental Health support services.

I still keep in touch with colleagues who remain with that ex- company; the Bullying Culture is now right across the company but HQ doesn't accept it exists.

I'm sorry to hear that and glad you're getting help.

I witnessed some workplace bullying and offered to accompany the person concerned to HR and said I was happy to be a witness. However she didn't feel emotionally strong enough to bring a formal grievance against the people concerned and asked me not to take it further. She eventually left.

In school bullied for studying & doing homework Also for being crap at most sports & drama. Seemed to head into puberty ahead of most, so teased/bullied about that too. Really disliked school in the end & couldn't wait to leave.

Have been bullied by one manager in a previous job to the point that one of us really had to leave as the grievance procedure wasn't robust enough & they were careful in how the bullying took place. They got a promotion & moved to another office, I found a different job & have never seen them since

Nottingham/and everywhere my location says i am ;)

My lug “ole’s” and a very very broad northerner accent when I first moved to the midlands.

But it taught me humour and sarcasm and ran rings round the knobs with intelligence that left the morons looking daft themselves

Being bullied for having a ‘posh’ voice seems quite mild compared to some of these stories, but it affected me a lot at the time. They were three we edy little boys as well.

Bullied for

having no dad

being a bastard (see above)

being crap at team sports

being clever

talking funny (moved north and south so twice)

There’s lots more.....the worst of it was that for about six months I became a bully too until I got chinned

School years for me were shit from beginning to end and I know I could have done so much better than I did but I rebelled and became even more non conformist as a result

It still affects me to this day and I wonde if that’s what. Draws me to fab

The worst thing for me though was when my son was horrendous bullied at secondary school for all the same stuff and the school did nothing to support him. Hid head of year was a cunt!

We got him into another school where he thrived and became a well liked and talented musician.

He still has his demons though and I am trying to get him to have some therapy and put it behind him. The school he got bullied at never apologised for him being driven out by the bullies and his social life fell apart because of what happened to him. Kids are shits but teachers who ignore the bullying need to ask themselves why?

"I had this conversation with a friend the other day and it got me thinking. We all get bullied and sometimes its for some pretty stupid reason. What were yours?

For me, I got bullied for my last name (its very unique. If you want to know, pm me and I might let you know) and because I had quite large ears as a child"

I understand this. As I too have a last name that caused the bullying. Mine is Hagger. My first name Shaun. On school letters etc it read Master Shagger. My dad was called Steve so we would receive letters for Mr&Mrs S.Hagger.

Never been bullied, but stopped a few bullies.

Had some heated banter thrown at me as a kid, but that isn't bullying its part of growing up, plenty went back

For being a single mum

Stretch marks

Big forehead

Big bum and thighs

Freckles

But I’m proud of them all now and learnt to love and embrace it, people only bully because they are jealous

I was bullied for having a big nose.

And also bullied because my parents are darker skinned & I’m lighter skinned so kids would tease and say I was adopted lol! Little did they know I happen to take my lighter colour from my maternal grandmother, who claims I look very much like she did when she was younger.

I was once teased by two girls I fell out with for having “big rubber lips” as they called it in secondary school. Whats funny is both these girls now have lip fillers, so rubber lips aren’t that bad after all! At least mine are natural!

Up until the age of 14 for being ginger, freckled and having a big bum. After 14 (when I grew big boobs to match) all of the above suddenly became very attractive and enviable traits, just as my mum told me they would

I was bullied in secondary school for being tall (I was nearly 6ft at 15), being ginger, shy and a bit of a loner. I was also bullied for having no dad (My father was killed in an accident when I was 7). I was also bullied for wearing second hand and hand made school clothes. My mum brought the 3 of us up on her own and never had much money. There were a group of 4 or 5 that really piled it on with me as they knew I daren't fight back. I left school at 16 instead of staying on at 6th form as I couldn't stand any more of it. I joined the forces and came home 18 months or so later on leave, bigger, stronger and able to stand up for myself. I spent my 2 weeks leave finding the group of 4 or 5 and shall we say, put things straight. I absolutely detest bullies.

Having ears that stick out. Impacted my whole time at school. But hey, now I embrace and love them, perfect for a girl to grab .

Kids can be so cruel but I've since had apologies from a couple of them which meant a lot.

For confiding in someone that I only have one testicle in middle school on a school trip. To which I was subject to bullying from then to the end of my education and thereafter

Probably why I find taking pics any lower than the base a bit of a struggle.

Hit the gym sorted that out changed my image completely

Funny how 18 years since leaving school a girl that used to take the piss tried to pull me... her face when she realised

It’s always the way!

One of the boys who used to tease me about my big nose tried to ask me out on a date. I politely declined reminding him of what he did but to him it was “just banter”, he didn’t take the rejection well.

As a pre teen a full head of thick curly hair (which could hold 43 pens and pencils within it's locks). Plus my geekiness, general weirdness and social awkwardness didn't help either.

I was bullied often at secondary school. Was always due to how my mum looks, the fact I have freckles and my hair was more of a gingery / auburn hair colour when I was I younger.

I was bullied by a racist prick at school. Carried on for a year and half until one day I stood up and snapped!! Laying in the floor with his nose busted in a pool of his own blood he realised I was physically and mentally stronger than he was. And so did I!! Only way to deal with them is to stand up to them

Ohh some of this is shocking

I also have a lot to tell. Here's a few bits..

Always being the tallest, I truly felt I was a freak, already 5'4" when starting secondary school at 11, then almost 6'6" when I left.

Being English and growing up in Wales was pretty tough.

Like someone else here my Father died when I was younger, and people do seem to think that's something to be made fun of.

Not being cool in any way. Not having a football shirt, adidas etc and not having the spider fringe hairstyle which was popular (also people dying the fringe blonde ), picked on for crappy buzzcut hair.

At least I grew my hair out and it ended up looking like surfer/rock star then suddenly got plenty of attention.

My nose, a lot. However, since I embraced myself a lot of people really like it. I do too.

Despite being tall, also real skinny, so much so I got beaten up a lot, including by girls, some of which were several years younger. Then at 16 the younger brats who made fun of me started to grow bigger, leading to them realising they could now beat me up too.

Being completely unable to stand up for myself physically except for rare occasions like when I reacted and grabbed hold of a guy who was hard, to wrestle him down. I didn't quite manage it and got overpowered and put down on a table but he had had a shock and it took him a big effort to force me down seeing I was tenacious.

I only started working on it physically when I was almost 27, when I wasn't strong enough to undo the bolts under the toilet and decided I'd had enough. Made great progress in a year even though I was concentrating on cycling and running and could have done much more. But then things went to **** big time, have been ill and been struggling since. Lost at least a stone of muscle but gained a little back which was gruelling compared to before. I will get there, and even now am reasonably able to stand up OK to most people, though much of it is the advantage of my height. So I expect to really fly when I finally start to get sorted.
