"Being ginger. Not having the best clothes. Being short... The best one though, was being bullied because I was breathing. *eyeroll* Some folks were never happy. Definitely a stronger person because of it but Too many people have suffered because of it and some poor people didn't even live to see the other side of it. " Move to wales. We're all short arses here. My ex was 4'8"

"I had this conversation with a friend the other day and it got me thinking. We all get bullied and sometimes its for some pretty stupid reason. What were yours? For me, I got bullied for my last name (its very unique. If you want to know, pm me and I might let you know) and because I had quite large ears as a child" For having an older boyfriend For being ugly - I was bullied a lot for being ugly. I’m slowly learning to love myself and embrace my appearance but there’s still days where I can’t look in the mirror because I hate myself. I try tell myself three positive things about my appearance each day. And my teeth. Stuff happened to me when I was little and all my teeth fell out at once. So they all grew in at once...and are awful. And for having big boobs. I developed early.

"I was relentlessly bullied for having big ears at junior school and sporadically bullied for that and not having all the "popular" branded clothes at secondary school, among other things that only teenagers could pick on people for. I was a sensitive kid so took it very hard at school, but as a result I'm a very thick skinned adult and have finely honed deflective wit if someone attempts to give me grief now, plus I'm a bit more physically intimidating than I was in school." Feel free to physically intimidate me any time. I didn't get bullied as such but I got the Mickey taken as I was relatively well spoken. Developed the worst cockney accent to try and fit in... think Dick Van Dyke. Could have been worse, guvnor....

At one of the many meetings I had with teachers when our son was being bullied the deputy head asked me in all seriousness if I was sure it wasn't "just high spirits". That was the moment I realised that I needed to involve the police because the school was never going to do more than hold "no blame circles" and assemblies about being kind. That cuts no ice when your kid comes home with the exact print of a shoe on his body.

Lots of different instances took place but when a girl older than me and her younger brother pulled my brother off his bike and dropped bricks on his head, the police were involved. That was the moment I realised that I needed to involve the police because the school was never going to do more than hold "no blame circles" and assemblies about being kind. That cuts no ice when your kid comes home with the exact print of a shoe on his body. Oh my god that’s terrible! My parents had to to the exact same with my brother, who is autistic. Lots of different instances took place but when a girl older than me and her younger brother pulled my brother off his bike and dropped bricks on his head, the police were involved. Usually my dad (or me, at school many times) dealt with it, but the police were involved for that one " This was primary school. The police were very good and the head mistress said she was glad I'd involved them. I just gave up on the school after that, they are powerless. Secondary school was better, the vice principal came down on this particular kid like a ton of bricks after he demanded money from our son even though it was off school premises.

"A few of my bullies had the cheek to ask why they weren’t invited to our wedding I bumped into one in town and she said ‘oh my invite must have got lost in the post!’ And I said ‘no, you bullied me and threw rice chips and curry sauce on me...four times’ How did that go down with them? ‘Oh yeah remember that?!’ And laughed...wasn’t funny when I was too afraid to leave school to go for lunch and couldn’t go to history because you sat and threw things at me and shouted abuse across the room Thats the downside. A lot of them think that it was all fun and games Yes, even the adults who are supposed to protect kids from this think that. At one of the many meetings I had with teachers when our son was being bullied the deputy head asked me in all seriousness if I was sure it wasn't "just high spirits". I have to say, secondary schools seem to be more equipped and able to handle bullying more. But it’s absolutely shocking, not enough is done about it, it’s awful. Your poor son

Your poor son " He was very stoical at the time and we all supported him although at times it was awful. I came across a file with all the correspondence about things in it recently, reading it after all this time it all seemed almost unbelievable. He's a well rounded man in his late 20s now with compassion, empathy and a successful career. I have no idea what happened to the boy who's jealousy caused him to physically assault our son for so long and I really don't care.

Primary schools are or were useless. There's too much emphasis on not blaming people and a fear of falling foul of political correctness. Also if bullying is psychological rather than physical its much harder to deal with.

I always thought I'd beat it, I'd get over it all and win. I didn't & had a breakdown, finally walking out of my job. I managed to get some professional help which worked in part. Two yrs on, I still have some issues but recently my GP's Senior Nurse recognised the signs & has referred me to local Mental Health support services. I still keep in touch with colleagues who remain with that ex- company; the Bullying Culture is now right across the company but HQ doesn't accept it exists.

I'm sorry to hear that and glad you're getting help. I witnessed some workplace bullying and offered to accompany the person concerned to HR and said I was happy to be a witness. However she didn't feel emotionally strong enough to bring a formal grievance against the people concerned and asked me not to take it further. She eventually left.

"I had this conversation with a friend the other day and it got me thinking. We all get bullied and sometimes its for some pretty stupid reason. What were yours? For me, I got bullied for my last name (its very unique. If you want to know, pm me and I might let you know) and because I had quite large ears as a child" Yes, my large ears as a kid gained me the nickname 'Toby jug' and later on in school I was bullied for not wanting to hang around with a certain kid

My dad was called Steve so we would receive letters for Mr&Mrs S.Hagger.

"Being skinny & geeky. Hit the gym sorted that out changed my image completely Funny how 18 years since leaving school a girl that used to take the piss tried to pull me... her face when she realised " It’s always the way! One of the boys who used to tease me about my big nose tried to ask me out on a date. I politely declined reminding him of what he did but to him it was “just banter”, he didn’t take the rejection well.
