A great songwriter but can be a bit of an arrogant knob at times - bit like Weller used to be really and I love Weller

Genius and i admire his confidence to say what he thinks and to hell with what other peole think. I may not agree with everything he says (love his music though!) but it would boring if there weren’t people like him in this world to shake things up a bit! I wonder what his star sign is? (You don’t hear much about astrolgy nowadays do you!!) - anyone remember the cuddly Russel Grant?!

Why would he be a genius?

Just a grumpy musician isn't he, or have I missed something that he's done?

Shouldn't it Morrisey MBE or something then?

What else then (as in 'to start with')

Irritating pillock.

Also; one of the finest lyricists of a generation.

Genius and being a bit of a knob head often go hand in hand.

Somewhere

" ... Lyrical genius ... "

This.

e.g. It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore. A song simply beautiful and at the same time, absolutely heartwrenching! Makes me cry, the swine.

I can listen to him over and over, but I don’t think I’d enjoy his company.

Me too plus he would hate me for being a meat eater. I could still listen to him all night.

the right frame of mind -London

IMHO -The true genius of the Smiths lies with Johnny Marr -the lyrics are a nice addition but he sure didn't have anything worth listening to without Johnny

Have I missed something that he's done?

Or are way saying 'Genius' for his songwriting?

As asked above he's not an MBE or something is he?

I don't know that much about him, hence the questions I ask and wrongly saying he was a musician.

The Never Played Symphonies is my personal favourite song of his because it resonates on a deep level. A lost love, that i have never been able to forget. The ‘one that got away’ and the reason it is so painful is because i was the idiot who walked away.....

He's a clever writer and borders on the extreme of life (hence is veganism).

He says what he thinks regardless of others opinions of him.

The smiths songs stand out as good as anybody's.
