mis-types and auto corrects leads cock leeds

I've just seen an advert for coronation street DNA secrets..

Anyone tested their DNA to find out their ancestry? If you did any surprises?

But, and I might be wrong here, doesn’t it just go, male or ydna straight down that one male line only and female dna or the mitrochondrial straight down the female line.

There’s no off shoots and no history or interest to it then. It’s just a bunch of meaningless names

Hmm I’d look into what they’re basing their info on, but think what is it you want? A bunch of random figures? For very little effort you’d be able to find a lot more interesting information yourself.

I know someone who did it.

He's mixed race with a white mother and a black father and very proud of his black heritage.

He got a bit of a shock when he got the results because they showed his ancestry is 65% Irish!

I did one and I'm 90% Great Britain and 95% of that is Northern English. The rest is Ireland 5%, Europe West 3%, Scandinavia 1% and Finland/Northwest Russia 1%.

Part Scottish and part Scandinavia but going through other avenues my surname is in the doomesday book and can be traced back further.

Scottish heritage shows a connection to William wallace where the original tartan is still outlawed

Scandenavian can be traced back to the viking invaders

Slough Windsor ish

I'm not quite sure what use the information is? I'd quite like to explore the people in my family tree, what they did for work, how they lived and stuff but knowing a percentage was from a given region doesn't really mean much.

My family has been researched a fair amount. Mothers side tracked back to 1300s dads side less detailed but back to a pre roman tribe in the Midlands.

The dna test data will be better when the database is increased substantialy. At the moment it's too spartan for my liking.

See that’s much more interesting. It brings meaning to the information, brings it back to life - in a non spooky kinda way
