I think you had to master the art of turning left and right and applying the brakes before you crashed into the instructor's Granada

"I did the CBT in 1984 at the age of 17. A couple of hours one Saturday morning in a school playground on my Honda CG 125. I know where the OP is coming from. The next, after a total of maybe 30 minutes on the road, I set off on my motorcycle, clipped a verge on a country road and was sent spinning. Ambulance called, broken ankle, foot in a plaster cast and a blood clot diagnosed a week later. Lolol Well, I got the bike fixed and did not make the same mistake again about riding to close to the verge. Eventually passed the part 2 a few years later. Good luck. " . I passed my car licence in 1988 and there was no CBT then, I could ride a bike up to 125 without l plates

" I passed my car licence in 1988 and there was no CBT then, I could ride a bike up to 125 without l plates" From memory, I had a provisional driving licence. That allowed me two years to pass both parts of the motorcycle test, otherwise I was off the road for one year. I did the CBT, which gave me two years as a learner on 125s. Then, about a year later, I passed my car test. Getting a full driving licence for a car removed the two-year limit on passing the m/cycle test. It took me two goes to pass the second part of the test - it was 1990 or so before I got the full motorcycle licence.

" I passed my car licence in 1988 and there was no CBT then, I could ride a bike up to 125 without l plates" Or up to 500cc if you had a sidewinder (who remembers them) fitted! And you had all those mental 2 stroke bikes - Suzuki RG500 was my dream back then, ended up with an RD350 YPVS until I passed my car test. Haven't ridden anything with 2 wheels since

"Cbt is an attendance course. There is no pass or fail. Don't fall off Don't kill anyone Don't kill yourself Don't crash Don't cause a crash And you will be fine. " All the above they'll make sure you can do basic maneuvers off road (usually tarmac play ground / disused road / area to rear of training school. .. ) before they let you out on the road, as well as theory & kit talks. You'll love it. Enjoy.

"Is it possible to get big bike license incrementally? All I see are DA courses for £700 and not the option to do CBT, a few big bike lessons mod 1, few more lessons, etc. I've been wanting to do it for a while but just a bit now and then." Not any more. You used to be able to do a CBT then pass test on a 125cc bike and have a power restricted licence for 2 years (but would allow on the region of 400cc) then after that tone could ride anything. Not anymore though. Different licences depending on age and power of bike. If you now take test on a 125cc you can NEVER ride anything bigger without taking a test on a bigger machine. You can do 125 at 17, then a bigger bike (can’t rember size - it’s done on power rather than cc though) at 19 but are limited to that again unless you take another test - which happens at 21 and jumps up another power band. Finally at 23 you can do the full unrestricted licence. For anything bigger than 125cc though you can only ride on provisional when accompanied by a licenced and trained instructor

"I known a few of my friends fail. " They normally advise you that they don't think that your ready and need some more practice before they will take you on the road, out of five in my group when i did it only two of us went out on the road, I'd been riding bikes since I was 13.
