on the road to nowhere in particular

Went to see a band in July called Supersonic Bluesmachine in July. Hadn’t heard of them before but Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP fame was advertised as featuring.

They turned out to be a “supergroup” comprised of some heavyweight music producers.

To say I was blown away when I heard them was truly an understatement

Billy F Gibbons showed true star quality without overshadowing the others. Surprise appearance by Bernie Marsden (whitesnake)

Supersonic Blues machine we’re way more funky than bluesy, not what I expected and a wonderful surprise

There and to the left a bit

Far too many to pick just one - but these have all been amazing for one reason or another:

Madness - Madstock - Finsbury Park 1992 - one of those gigs you had to have been there to know how special it was.

Madness - Dublin Castle back room - 2005 - to see the band I grew up with play the back room of the pub they started off in was amazing.

Madness - The Light Bar - album launch party 2009 - special event indeed only open to invited guests.

Muse - Etihad Stadium 2014 - was at the end of the runway and had the perfect view for an awesome show.

Green Day - Hyde Park 2017 - if Hyde Park had a roof it would have been blown off!!

The Beat - Hammersmith Palais 1982 - just one of those gigs that will live with me forever.

Biffy Clyro - Belfast SSE 2016 - on the barrier and truly blown away by a band I didn't know much about at the time.

The Specials - Brixton Academy comeback tour - after missing them first time round to finally see (almost all of) them live was fantastic

Prince, Hit and Run show, Electric Ballroom in Camden a couple of years ago. Queued for three hours, got in for the second show, £10 on the door, just enough time to get a drink, followed by a blistering two hour set with his all girl band, Third Eye Girl, only a few feet from the stage in a crowd of about 1000.

I’d seen him a few times, including an aftershow at the O2, but my that was an incredible show.

Planet Ork

Too many to pick one, here’s a few in no particular order.

Ultravox 2009 Birmingham after the band had got back together after a break of over 20 years.

Garry Glitter, yes I know but we went to one of his Xmas concerts in the early 90s and it was a great concert. Hard to admit it now!

Whitesnake 1987 brilliant, big hair and big tunes.

Rod Stewart, around 1985 great performance.

Heaven 17. Who doesn’t like temptation?

Robbie Williams, proper showman and the support act was ABC

Chas & Dave, cheesy Xmas do in small venue last year, surprisingly enjoyable but that may have been something to do with the copious amount of alcohol consumed.

Taylor Swift, took our daughter and apart from the incessant screaming girls singing along it was a decent show.

OMD this year, Brilliant.

Barry Manilow tomorrow night, we will let you know!

By the sounds of it the people getting in the first shows were dipping out. There were probably a few on that tour that were even better, but it was incredible. You just don’t get to see someone like Prince in that sort of queue to get in small venue very often. I just remember at the end everyone was dumbstruck with the biggest grin, going round asking everyone else if that had actually happened! Can’t believe he’s gone.
