If I could .. absolutely! Maybe not SE Asia though, perhaps S America or Australia. With maybe a brief stop over en route in Asia.

I buggered off to America for 6yrs. I'd still rather be living & working where I am now, but if I won the lottery, I'd be gone!

I'm contemplating quitting my job, I've only been there 6 months and the amount of back stabbing, bitching and passive aggressive emails is really getting me down. Don't fancy going abroad though just need do find my passion in my work again

I started travelling in 2001

Worked to save money, leave for 6 months come back get another job, save, leave and do it all again.

I stopped around 2011 for financial reasons and life has never been as good since

I hate my current job, house and have few friends where I am now.

But am trapped financially

I wish I could just tell my job to go fuck itself and run away!

All I’d say Lib my old mate: you only live once.

You'll probably not regret trying it even if it doesn't work out. Nobody ever dies wishing they'd spent more time in the office.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

I did it and dont regret it for one minute.

Cheated slightly though because I started off by taking 6-months unpaid leave.

I wasnt quite sure how it would all work out but 3 months into the leave I bit the bullet and resigned and Im still at it 20 yrs later...

Not really. A month in Thailand was enough for me til I started missing home comforts and was tired of being hot and sweaty all the time.

I mean months.

Years? I wish.

I wouldn't want to do too much longer because it would begin to eat into my mortgage deposit savings.

Would taking unpaid leave for a few months not be an option?

North Bucks

Cost him about 3k and he didn’t scrimp on hotels for the month. He reckons he could have stretched that easily for a couple of months with more rustic accommodation.

I doubt it - I work at a medium size organisation and I'm the only person here who does what I do. They'd need to fill that gap and putting everything externally would cost a fortune.

It's also part of the reason it's a good time to go - I need to move on somewhere else really, so the timing feels right before I commit elsewhere.

I backpacked around America for a few months in my early twenties - absolutely loved it!
