"Are you stuck in your ways? When you grow older, have you found your views grow stronger and you challenge things with a more wiser and educated view? Or are you more laid back, more likely to listen with an open mind? " I'm laid back, I have an opinion but unless I really like you you could not offend me

"We all have our version of the truth based on our own personal experience, values, culture and upbringing. So you can have an argument with differing points of view and both sides will be absolutely adamant that they are right! If I go to (say in a totally made up scenario) Birmingham and have encountered rude twats each time I’ve gone, but someone else has gone and only ever met nice friendly people, we will both have very different views on the people of Birmingham based on our experience - and even if we accept that not all people will be like that our prejudices tend to be deep set based on what we “know” .." But I’ve just realised that doesn’t really answer the OPs question! Actually as I get older I’ve learnt that whatever I say is unlikely to change someone’s opinion so I can’t be arsed with heated debate these days and let them get on with it. Someone else will be along shortly to have it out with them instead!

"If I look back over the last ten years then I am a very different person to who I was then. My views on a range of topics have changed radically. I hope that in ten years time that some of my current understanding will havd changed too. Otherwise where is the journey or exploration. " That’s it, kinda. If I’m not listening to people, and learning new ways of looking at stuff, I do t see the point of making friends, keeping friends or talking to people. I might as well become a journalist and hope people read my own unbinding views.

This Sometimes peoples experiences render them unable to perceive objective truth (e.g. they live in echo chambers and their livelihood depends on them not seeing the truth). Sometimes people don't have enough life experience to see truth (e.g. they imagine country x is fucking amazing and we should be more like them, but they haven't actually been and know very little about it).

"I love hearing other people's opinions. I often ask dumb questions to get a wider range of answers. I find it interesting. " I like it when someone says something and I think "oh i hadn't thought of it like that". Which is happening on my single mums thread and every mental health thread. I hate it when people are repeating cliche soundbites that they haven't thought through and don't really believe in.

I know it often makes people think bad of me but I'm ok with that. There's been some really good threads lately (none started by me!) that have given some great insights and new information I'd never considered.

" I read most of them, and some really good views/arguments sometimes. Even when I don’t get involved I take some of it in. There’s some clever people around.
