I don't think anyone belongs anywhere, especially based on things they have no control over.

The roles have changed in that the roles are falling away. The more freedom everyone has to choose where they belong the better.

I saw a debate between a housewife and a feminist, and the feminist correctly asked the housewife "what do you do all day?". 70 years ago, you didn't have dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, bread makers etc so housewives were pretty busy. These days, the chores just don't take long and that's assuming you don't have help either. We do, it's, £12 an hour ffs. If you can afford to be a housewife then you can afford £12 an hour for a cleaner. The housewife couldn't really explain her day beyond dragging out activities as long as humanly possible by cooking everything from scratch and managing whatsapp groups for mums.

So no, women don't belong in the kitchen because there's fuck all for them to do in there.

Forgive me, it is early and I've yet to have my coffee. Are you saying women do belong in the kitchen but only if they're deprived of modern conveniences?

Are you talking 'housewife' with or without children ?

Married to rich or poor man ?

Disabled or able bodied?

Active in a town or city community or stranded in a country cottage ?

A feminist said to me that the reason women don’t have equality today is because they were out in the kitchen and not in the outside world which limited their thinking and opportunities.

I agreed to the above statement but my sexist friend said if women were put in the kitchen then why most chefs today are men.

I just didn’t know what to say..

The other day we had a discussion on here about male and female brain and similar comments were made.

Don't see how any of those would change the answer to the OPs question. You keep kids out the kitchen when they are young, so you wouldn't say young mothers belong in the kitchen. If your husband is poor then he can't afford a housewife and will just have to buy carrot cake from Waitrose instead of having her make it fresh for him. I'm not sure a housewife really needs to be able bodied to press the one switch for 5 machines and wait for them to finish, I'm pretty sure disabled women can manage that job.

I do a lot of the cooking in my house because I like it and because I'm good at it, not because it's "my place". If I don't want to cook my husband will, or we'll do it together. I'll also be out in the garden mowing the lawn or fixing stuff. We don't have gender roles in my house.

On this note: My future wife will be a housewife

Best advice you'll ever hear, get a prenup.

Will do. You are obviously my best friend. However I don’t believe in marriage so can I get a house girlfriend

You're not one of those closet homo MGTOW lot are you? Marriage is great when you can be bothered to pick a good partner. The fact that most people think harder about which aftershave to buy and pay the consequences, shouldn't put you off.

I take it you are legally married? Big mistake

If two people want to spend their lives together and feel strongly about each other then why the need for a legal agreement?

Do you understand the power of rituals in the broader sense? Would you accept that rituals have the ability to alter a person due to neuroplasticity? "

No and btw what is closet homo MGTOW?

The Town by The Cross

"I saw a debate between a housewife and a feminist, and the feminist correctly asked the housewife "what do you do all day?".

Are you talking 'housewife' with or without children ?

Married to rich or poor man ?

Disabled or able bodied?

Active in a town or city community or stranded in a country cottage ?

All of em ?

I wasn't talking to the O.P. That's a question that doesn't warrant an answer. I was talking to you.

I thought we'd be agreeing on this one. "

Not entirely sure that we'd agree 100%.

I find the O.P.'s question dated.

Life has changed and continues to change. Whether that change is progress or not depends on the viewpoint of the individual and the group.

My viewpoint is that people with a more philosophical view or who exercise plain old pragmatic methods of getting along in life and getting jobs done, don't worry about which gender is doing which work that is necessary to provide for their family.

In my life I have been the 'domestic' the 'mother' and the 'sole bread earner.'

The argument that there is nothing to do for women who stay at home overlooks many changes in expected standards etc and simple points that if one wage is enough for their needs it may suit that family to have the security of an adult that deals with all the domestic crises and leaves the wage earner to earn.

'Do women belong in the kitchen?' is like asking - ' Is it okay for men to be gay ? or 'Does skin colour make people less clever?' .......

MGTOW are a bunch of logically challenged men who think that because some women are gold digging, paternity fraud committing, whores, then no men should marry any women. Think what an alpha male feminist would be like, but in favour of men.

Once the kids are in school, I don't see the benefit. It's not hard to manage two careers when kids are in school 6-7 hours a day. One of you drops them off, the other picks them up.

"We had an interesting discussion about it yesterday, have the role changed through the decades as back in the old days it was more like that?

I think it have as women today are more independent and even now were men also is in the kitchen, whats your view?

"

Actually possibly yes. But not necessarily the woman!

We got conned somewhere down the line, used to be a family unit could live quite nicely on one wage, with one partner being self employed raising children and looking after the household chores.

Now for the majority of families both need to work long hours, pay someone else to look after children who also end up putting in long hours with breakfast / after school clubs etc.

Someone does belong at home doing the work of running a home, but low wages have made that impossible.

Agreed with almost all of that, however if as a family you can afford to be a housewife or husband, and that person enjoys it and it works why should you pay for a cleaner, is it because you 'expect' the woman or man to work so they can add to the never ending greed to have more money and possessions?

What about just being satisfied with what you've got, enjoying the life you've chosen to lead and being thankful you aren't driven by greed to have ever more. Once there's enough in the bank to be comfortable I have never understood the need to work even more to die with more in the bank

So we will carry on as house person and very satisfied partner with no desire to justify those positions at all. It also leaves a good job available for somebody that maybe needs it to be able to live a better life.

"I don't think anyone belongs anywhere, especially based on things they have no control over.

The roles have changed in that the roles are falling away. The more freedom everyone has to choose where they belong the better.

I do a lot of the cooking in my house because I like it and because I'm good at it, not because it's "my place". If I don't want to cook my husband will, or we'll do it together. I'll also be out in the garden mowing the lawn or fixing stuff. We don't have gender roles in my house."

I'm not saying you made it up. I'm saying that the results can be explained by other factors. It's all very well asking someone who is frustrated with their career, if they'd like to be a housewife. They'll probably say yes. Doesn't mean they'd like the reality of it. Likewise, it's all very well saying you'd be happy to be financially dependant on someone, when you're not. Doesn't mean you'd like the reality. The only thing that poll proves is that women like to complain.

I'm a stay at home housewife, just because we're lucky for now, both love it and 100% of my friends would swap places in an instant. Every single one of them. I've had a few, mainly male friends, try and make an insult of it.

Ok John, thanks for the input, isn't that your alarm going off to go mad sit in a traffic jam then 8 miserable hours in an offive where nobody appreciates you, surprisingly I'm still not jealous of how great you think your self worth is and how much you feel you contribute to society

I'm completely appreciated every day, and my 'boss' tells me I'm amazing every day, I'll still with this job as long as I possibly can and I will do it to the utmost of my ability to make sure he knows how much I love it

"I saw a debate between a housewife and a feminist, and the feminist correctly asked the housewife "what do you do all day?".

Are you talking 'housewife' with or without children ?

Married to rich or poor man ?

Disabled or able bodied?

Active in a town or city community or stranded in a country cottage ?

All of em ?

Don't see how any of those would change the answer to the OPs question. You keep kids out the kitchen when they are young, so you wouldn't say young mothers belong in the kitchen. If your husband is poor then he can't afford a housewife and will just have to buy carrot cake from Waitrose instead of having her make it fresh for him. I'm not sure a housewife really needs to be able bodied to press the one switch for 5 machines and wait for them to finish, I'm pretty sure disabled women can manage that job.

Not sure I understand the link between neuroplasticity and rituals?

"I'd love to be a house wife and stay home all day whilst my husband is at work but I have no husband!

And what would you do at home all day? "

After taking my child to school I'd clear away all the breakfast stuff cos it's always a mad rush in the mornings getting myself ready for work and her ready for school. I'd do a light clean of all the rooms, just hoover and polish, make the beds. Would do shit loads of classes whilst my daughter was at school, yoga, boot camp, body pump, trx, fab abs, circuits, spinning. Then would actually have a shower and do my hair and make up and actually look presentable when I pick my daughter up from school, would prepare something to eat, would have outfits ready for whatever class my daughter was doing that day (she does one every day of the week). Would actually look polished whilst I'm sat there for hours in gymnastics or kickboxing or swimming or drama with the organic mums and the dance classes, instead of how I normally look, hoody and leggings and flip flops and hair in a pony tail!

All my laundry would be ironed and put away instead of ironing as I go, house would be immaculate, I would be ammaculate. Obviously my husband would be on a decently wage to support me so I'd break the day up with beauty treatments as well as being in uber incredible shape fitness wise.

See how much more fulfilling is that than office politics, back biting, redundancy, traffic Jams, meetings you can barely stay awake in.

In simple terms, the events of your life alter the way you perceive the world. The more significant the event, the bigger then effect.

That would be the dream, but reality is we're out the house by 8:30 I finish work by 3, pick her up, mad dash back home, quickly do something for food then getting her ready and off to the class, kickboxing I can leave her there Monday and Thursday for 1.5 hours whilst I run the other side of town to the gym, do a class for an hour, pick her up, home, play/bond/cuddle bath then put her to bed, then try and tidy but all your energy is zapped so you just make an arse groove on the sofa, go to bed and do it all again when you wake up.

"Give up reading this but my two pense worth.

No but yes one partner should be stay at home (partner not the male or female but which ever makes the most sense for the couple either financial or parental) I do think that one parent should be at home for the children but unfortunately in today's society we can not afford for one but to be working, but that isn't just lack of money it's wanting and striving for more, we are not happy with 1 tv a normal phone hand me downs no we want the latest tv the biggest house car ect so money talks and bull shit walks bee all and end all are kids suffer!

Once the kids are in school, I don't see the benefit. It's not hard to manage two careers when kids are in school 6-7 hours a day. One of you drops them off, the other picks them up.

I'm on less than 17k a year and manage to cover everything so if he earned double that I'd feel like a queen. If I had a guy in my bed every night my sleeping position would be between his arse cheeks, it's my happy place.

Traditionally, and still for some, women see the kitchen as their room. It was where many felt comfortable and they could practice their talent for making delicious food for the family.

These days, girls are not taught this skill to that extent.

Fuck that's the wrong way round for me. Don't have a beer belly, just a fugly face. Well all the best with your search.

How much do you earn though? "

Enough for multiple wives in South Wales apparently

If your mobile beautician prefers treating you in the kitchen, then that's fine. Otherwise there are some older folk who still have archaic rigid gender roles in the UK

"I'd love to be a house wife and stay home all day whilst my husband is at work but I have no husband!

And what would you do at home all day?

What's the minimum salary you'll accept your husband earning? How regular would the rim jobs be - are we talking weekly or monthly?

I'm on less than 17k a year and manage to cover everything so if he earned double that I'd feel like a queen. If I had a guy in my bed every night my sleeping position would be between his arse cheeks, it's my happy place.

Plenty of guys can meet those requirements. You're not one of those fussy types who wants a handsome man who doesn't have a beer belly are you?

Surely it is about who is the best at a particular skill. That is what marriage is all about, Mr is a good cook and 24 years in the army means he can iron ten time better than I can. I have no interest in cooking so the kitchen is his domain, however he can't stand gardening so I do all the garden work. Cleaning the house is shared but as he is normally cooking or ironing I do the bulk of it.

Some of the best sex of my life has been in Wales. Literally the only time I've ever had a woman walk up to me and say "can I give you a blowjob?"

I do believe the role is classed as 'homemaker' nowadays, non gender specific.

Only before and after meal times. They should be free to roam the rest of the house once the cooking and washing up has been done. Otherwise the bloody stairs would never get hoovered.

Go to justeat and save yourself a divorce "

That was mrs replying. 17 yrs together and no need for just eat. I am a housewife with 2 small children and I do all the cooking and cleaning.

Just saying tho some women are terrible and I have friends who do nothing and the husbands do it all. Each to their and all that, every relationship is different x

"We had an interesting discussion about it yesterday, have the role changed through the decades as back in the old days it was more like that?

I think it have as women today are more independent and even now were men also is in the kitchen, whats your view?

"

Women belong in the same place a man does in a forest full of bears.
