Journaling

Hello folks, please forgive the long post and I may possibly be opening myself up but so be it.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience of journaling and what types of things you would share with your journal? Obviously, I am not asking for specifics here, more general topics.

Now it is true that I write a bit already but I never really considered writing personal thoughts and feelings down until attending my recent wellbeing CBT course.

I have now been discharged from this with no further treatment planned.

I still have a number of areas that I am working on to keep moving forward.

Several things I've seen on the internet this last few weeks have prompted me to consider journaling. I got the notebook yesterday and sat down this evening to write the first entry.

I feel more empowered now, having written about where I was compared to where I am now.

I like journaling! I’d also recommend having a look at The Artist’s Way - Julia Cameron.

Excellent. Thank you. Just the type of thing I was looking for and little pointers.

I was quite impressed that my first entry filled a page. If I do that regularly then I am going some!

I have just started myself this week. Any rambling thought gets written down. Quite amazing how much you can actually get down to paper

If you publish that stuff I’m in a lot of trouble

Some of those photos of me aren’t suitable for everyone

I was amazed how good I felt after writing some stuff and reflecting on a couple of quite dark feelings.

Well done you.

It clears things out your head pretty well doesn't it. Keep at it.

I journal a lot, I find it really nice to empty my head before I go to bed if that makes sense. I use a journal app now but you can’t beat a lovely notebook and pen, I love buying stationery too!

I don’t write everyday but it’s something I’ve always done since I was a teenager. I wish I still had those journals now to revisit the teenage angst

I've always done it, almost since I could write. It isn't a regular thing with me and I think its important that you don't feel you have to write daily. I keep two, sometimes three notebooks going for different reasons.

Yeah I did keep a diary when I was about 15 for about 8/9 months. It will have read like Adrian Mole.. haha

Giving some thoughts in how it will continue now. I was thinking about revisiting the things I did on the course but writing them in with feelings. I really like the emptying of thoughts before bed.

Sounds like a good time to do it, and I did find it quite relaxing this evening.

I've written a blog since I started my transition. It's sort of a very personal journal about various aspects of it. But published online to strangers. It's extremely useful emotionally and entirely cathartic. Writing a journal is an excellent tool for coping too.

Thanks for sharing. I think I will do a few entries before deciding if I want to make it an online blog. There is that potential too and if others find it interesting or it actually helps someone else then that is fantastic.

Great shout!

I'd recommend WordPress. Has some great options. Including setting your posts to private. That way only you see them and they are password protected. Good luck x
