My rant!

My local gp - I went to see today I need help due to stress a previous problem I’ve had has risen it’s ugly head again.

I have bulimia I had it years ago and got help which worked but things last couple of weeks have got too much.

I noticed it becoming a problem again myself unlike last time when I couldn’t see a issue so I went to the dr to get help before I go too far again.

I’m gutted I feel like a scolded child he basically said I’m old enough to know better suggested I go to a diet group (I am over weight) and go home and eat and my body is starving as I’ve not eaten for a few days.

He wouldn’t listen when I said the eating isn’t the problem it’s what I do after which I’m scared off.

He just wasn’t bothered by what I was saying and brushed me off

I’ve come home crying feeling stupid.

So that’s my rant I know gps are stressed etc but when someone genuinely goes for help it should be dealt with.

That's awful, you shouldn't feel stupid, the GP should at least be able to sign post you to help if they aren't able to support you.

You mention it's been an issue before, were there any organisations or people who were helpful in the past you could try contacting again? Don't let the GP make you feel wrong for seeking support. Much love to you xx

Try not to feel stupid, you made a really brave move to go to your doctor about it. Is there any mental health services near to you that you could contact yourself instead of having to be referred to by your GP? Hugs. Xx

Thank you, it was a issue about 4 years ago I hid it for a few months but got help after someone at work picked up on what I was doing.

This time as I said I’ve realised it’s going to happen.

I’ve not eaten for a few days because that desire to purge is just too strong and I’m trying to fight against falling into the trap again and the vicious circle.

I’ve contacted the councillor I had previously and she’s going to find someone in my area as I’ve now moved she’s pretty disgusted in my gp as I went in being positive and now I’m in a negative mind again.

I am having stress I thought I was dealing ok with it but a couple of days ago something else happened and the trip switched.

I would make a complaint to the practice manager!! How dare the dr make out that eating disorders is just immaturity!!

I don't know much about eating disorders but recognising what's happening before that circle really starts sounds like a massive positive thing, I hope your old counsellor can find a good local contact for you.

A chat with the practice manager might not be a bad idea, some awareness raising might help for the future.
