Snake

A man came across a snake to getting burned to death, so he picked it up. The snake bit him and he dropped it. He again picked it up from the fire.

A man approached him said "why did you try to save it by picking it up for a 2nd time when it bit you the first time?"

The man replied "the nature of the snake is to protect itself, that's why it bit me, but I'm not going to let that change my nature, which is to help and care.

Do not change your nature because someone tries to harm you or upset you in any way. Do not loose your good heart, understand that they can't help how their nature is, just learn to take precautions.

One precaution might be to not pick the snake up again.

If I was in an abusive relationship with a man to was cruel in everyway I might change my nature one day and let him remain in the metaphorical fire. The snake kills you, the fire kills the snake, you're both dead.

Sometimes the best way to care for others is to care for yourself first.

The precaution you would take is to try and escape the relationship.

The point of the story is not to allow others to change your own nature.

I understand that but my point is that it might sometimes be a good thing.

I don't mean to change completely from being a good and caring person but maybe change from doormat to someone who stands up for themselves.

I sometimes think these little anecdotes are like the religious books my mum used to give me and are designed to keep you as the bitten rather than the biter.

In my opinion.

Yes I do get that. Improve your nature, don't change for the worse then maybe I should say.

Don't let others change the goodness in you, gain strength from the dispicable behaviour of others.

Mmm disagree, I learnt the hard way that always protect yourself and your own first. I spent the beginning of last year being bitten by a snake over and over again and yet I still kept picking the snake up. Sometimes you just have to let the snake burn as it will continue to bite over and over again

Somewhere In The Ether…

......on the second attempt to pick up the snake the chaps arm froze, his heart rate suddenly became wildly erratic and he subsequently toppled over dead.

The moral here: Don’t pick up Taipan’s! Learn to identify your snakes folks

Personally after a couple of attempts, run for the hills. Some things and people can't be fixed, been there twice, once with relief and once with regret.

You're right, sadly some people will never be fixed. Thankfully I don't have any of those type people in my life
