What is it with fakes and catfish??

I’m sure most people have been caught out on some level or another. My catfish cherry was popped last night, and it got me wondering what these people actually get out of it?

Obviously I’m not allowed to name names, which itself is a shame as maybe if we could do that it would at least shame them off the site for a bit. But anyway, it was a ‘couple’ who looked perfect, sounded perfect, but repeatedly skirted around the vital issues of number / face pic swaps. So, did the old TinEye check and lo and behold, half their pictures are from elsewhere on the web. Their one and only friends only pic I’ve seen at least twice elsewhere on here. Confusingly half their pics seem to be inique, which made me question my instincts, maybe they are just bolstering their profile a bit? But then again, ladies and couples don’t really have to do that on here do they haha....

Anyway, sorry for the long winded rant, but people like that really piss me off, and it takes the wind out of your sails too doesn’t it? My sexual tastes are fairly, er, niche compared to most on here so finding what appears to be a genuine couple that share my kink level is pretty rare....

You can't name names but you can report them to admin who will remove the stolen pics. I caught one out just the other day too, if it looks too good to be true I always reverse image search.

Yeah, I’m going to do that today. My initial instinct was of a genuine couple as the stolen pics aren’t that ‘special’ if you know what I mean. Ah well, onwards and upwards innit.

Not quite true though. I have reported numerous pics of certain profiles and even included links to the sites the pics are taken from. This was over a few months ago. The pics are still on the profile and even been in the top rated.

It's really frustrating when this happens because keeping a site like this as honest as possible is in the interests of all users. Unfortunately, because you can't enter into communication with admin over reported photos (understandably) you simply never know what action has or hasn't been taken behind the scenes, or what plausible explanation accused parties may have come up with. It's very frustrating though to see profiles like the one you describe flourishing despite the fact their pics appear to be 'borrowed' when however much you rack your brain things just don't add up.

I’ve seen this before too.

I had the same avatar drop into my inbox 3 times, all in a row too which made it confusing and laughable at the same time.

Never heard of reverse image until mentioning what had happened to a friend, he checked them out and I think the torso belonged to an South American model...

Reverse image isn't foolproof as it won't pick up if the photos are pinched from private sites like this one.

It doesn't - and I'm not sure it can trawl the whole web in the time it takes to return results either - there's a profile that, like the previous poster said, appears in Hot Pics etc regularly, whose pics all appear to be "borrowed" and none of them reverse image despite being taken from a public site - am currently waiting for appropriate action to be taken so shall say no more.

Some people genuinely have profiles and pics on other sites. I'm not sure the reverse image search works either.

Yes, some people do and where it's obvious that the two match and there's absolutely no intention to delude or mis-represent that is of course fine.

However there are plenty of examples where things simply don't add up and it's quite clear that the pics don't belong to the person posting them here, and it's those profiles I'm referring to.

Just to clarify a point, the pics in this particular instance weren’t from other dating / hookup / sex meet sites, they were from tumblr sites celebrating Russian wives amongst other things.

Always report your suspicions to admin.

I think these people get some feelings of power from it, hinting at their issues.

Kings Hill

In answer to OP’s question, we’ve been catfished by several “couples” who are clearly not and the usual block is the solution; that said, we were intrigued so played along with one, apparently it was the female of the couple and “she” was very polite, wanted to talk to our female of the couple. Messaged back and forth, it took about an hour for “her” to tell us about her fantasy of letting her boyfriend meet with a couple and let her see pictures and videos afterwards because that was her kink!!

In reality an elaborate plan by a single guy to get in a room with a couple, ridiculous and a waste of time from our perspective but does make you think, not everyone is as experienced on Fab as we are! Oh and Admin did nothing when we reported it, the profile was live for months afterwards!

Well my situation wasn’t a million miles away. I was chatting to the male ‘half’ who said his wife was into all the things I am, loves dressing, really kinky etc etc etc. Then comes out with he’d love to meet me alone which I’m just not into. Then it was we’ll swap numbers later, but they share a phone (really....) and that’s when I decided to go all super sleuth. Shame really as if ‘they’ really were genuine it would have been a cracking meet! Haha

I think there are various reasons people do it - from the single guys posing as a couple in the hope of snagging a meet because the wife's indisposed suddenly, to those who get a perverse kick out of pretending to be someone they're not, or those that are desperate for attention and a myriad of other reasons.

All we can do as members is report it when we come across it and hope that admin take the appropriate action.

The trouble is, with a wealth of material available out there, as soon as one profile is uncovered and removed it's very easy to just find another source for pics and set up another.

Not sure there is any ultimate answer to the problem without going down the route of credit card verification to set up profile but that in itself brings it's own problems and impacts to the site - so all you can do really is remain vigilant and guarded against any suspicious profiles until you're sure they are all they seem.

I was just about to say the same thing. Admin don't do jack s@#t imo. And it's also real profiles as apposed to fake ones that use pictures off the net. I spoke to a couple who admitted that one of their pictures isn't of them but it looks good. Once you're photo verified then long as nobody notices then you can have any picture you like

Not sure a divy burk is strong enough.

You ever fancy a trip to Tunbridge Wells you’d only need to knock on one door
