So there I was..

21 year's old on my mates farm who I'd met through the good old days of CB radio.

After getting me up at 4:30 to milk the cows he told me today was a special day for the bullocks.

After a cup of tea n toast we headed down to the paddock and rounded them up.

I asked what we were doing and he informed me that he was castrating the baby bulls. He went into the back room and reappeared with a long tool with flat end looking very similar to bolt croppers only bigger.

By this time two other farm hands arrived and started to put the bulls into the line to be processed.

The first little bull arrived at the front of the que and was given a treat of a bowl of fodder - vitamins my mate informed me.

Then without warning he took the clamps and wrapped the jaws around the bulls bollocks and squeezed tightly. "Holy shit I said, that must hurt?" where I got the reply "only if you get your fingers trapped between the handles".

My eyes watered, strangely though the bull didn't flinch. He later informed me that if you squeeze the 'crimps' in the right location there are only a few nerves anf hence they don't feel it 'much'.

Sure enough revisiting a week later and asking how the bulls were, he informed me that they were fine and "thier balls were starting to drop off".

I did work experience at a vet surgery and they removed them rather than crimping... the farmer was going round collecting them, excited to have them for his tea

Nothing gets wasted on the farm..

He also had chickens at home with a rooster. Fresh eggs for brekky were lovely washed down with coffee made with milk straight the cows.

One weekend I'd nipped out and got back to find my mate with cuts and scars all over his face.

I asked him what happened where he informed me that he'd gone to get eggs and his rooster had attacked him in protecting his girls.

Thinking no more of it we sat down to a lovely roast dinner later that evening and said the chicken was awesome.

He informed me that "it wasn't chicken but that damn nasty rooster won't ever attack me again".

I used to work at a riding stables/farm and the rooster was terrifying! It attacked the farmer's wife and had to be attacked with a pitch fork to let go of her...she probably deserved it though, grumpy cow.

I could never decide whether eating testicles or the fact they've come off the filthy floor was worse

. The bullocks didn't actually seem too bothered about it all though to be fair.
