So taking this away from the tremor thread as I totally get why some people felt it inappropriate to derail an awareness topic.... if you had a medical condition that you had disclosed on your personnel file but had chosen not to discuss with your colleagues how would you feel if you found out that one of those colleagues who has access to your file decided to read through it and found out what your condition was? Not as part of any performance related issue or occupational health referral, just that they had a hunch something was eying so decided to snoop about. I know I'd be pissed. It's a bit like a Dr's receptionist having access to your medical records and reading through them when they're bored. They shouldn't be doing it. I have access to a lot of information about a lot of people at work as a manager but I am not allowed to access it without good reason. | |||

" I am sure this is covered by the new GDPR regulations, unless they had a reason to look at your file for a professional use linked to your and their job they shouldn't have access to your file. | |||

If that person had wanted the original poster (on other thread) to know about it, I'm sure they would have said. This is why I asked how they knew that person had that specific condition (plenty of conditions can make you have tremors). " I would be extremely annoyed and would expect some kind of disciplinary action to be taken against the person who did the snooping. If people with a medical condition want their colleagues to know, it is up to them to release that information. As long as their manager knows, in case they need any assistance to carry out their job, that's where it should stay. | |||

As mentioned above, simply working in HR or personnel does not give someone cart blanche to access files without good reason. Being nosey is not a good reason. | |||

My workplace knows about my mental health and my dyspraxia and I'm very open there about those conditions. " Your line manager is not entitled to see your disclosures of medical issues that you reported to HR. They can ask but HR should refuse. | |||

I did but I got told off for doing so as it was derailing the conversation which was awareness of a medical issue. Much like I explain in the first paragraph of the post you quoted. Why can't you simply read? Anyway, turns out the situation I am referring to was all a load of bollocks anyway so doesn't really matter does it.
