Yeah in hindsight troll was the wrong word, as that implies malice and I genuinely don’t think there’s any malice in your intention, so I’ll hold up my hand and apologise for that!

Perhaps if I’d said “The wind-up merchant got wound up” that would have been more appropriate!

It’s just the same as any forum or chat room. People throw around jokes that have a basis from time ago, yes it may be interminable to a newbie but I doubt that would be high up on the reason as to why they don’t post.

Personally I think the pool of forum posters has dwindled recently for many reasons, that’s only served to emphasise the personalities of regular posters

They’ve been scrawling graffiti around here; Moose Knuckle slogans and highly vulgar artwork (the sort of stuff one often sees in the Tate Modern)

I foresee a Westside Story style, all out gang war erupting any time now.....

Ok, so it's the first time on the forum, you see a brand new post that makes your blood boil and post.

How are you meant to know it's a joke?

I do (sometimes) like his posts (and the others that do the same), just putting a different point of view across.

Take a deep breath, read it twice see how likely it sounds and go from there.

I know that, but someone new might not.

The example I gave above was just an example of what a newbie might do - especially as most people comment on posts as they go down a thread and don't read the whole thread before making their first comment.

It’s just the same as any forum or chat room. People throw around jokes that have a basis from time ago, yes it may be interminable to a newbie but I doubt that would be high up on the reason as to why they don’t post.

Personally I think the pool of forum posters has dwindled recently for many reasons, that’s only served to emphasise the personalities of regular posters

It worries me that people don’t on occasions. Or enjoy lighting touchpaper to court opinions that they then choose to distance themselves from. I find it as worrying and at best naive. And yet when discussed off forum as to what the issues are, ignored because the giggle is more fun.

We all form our opinions of people on our interactions with them. Had it been one thread I might have dismissed it. The rapid repeat of the same topic under slightly changed headings formed my opinion.

What you see as irrelevant or jovial in those threads I take seriously. The comments, spin off threads and messages I received confirm my bias.

I don't find sexism/misogyny/misandry funny. I have seen the damage from the normalisation of "it's just banter" and "it's your problem taking it seriously". I don't take racism or homophobia, transphobia or taking the piss out of disability lightly either.

Yet, I have a sense of humour, can enjoy dark humour, and manage to be quite personable.

I know I'm not the only person to have experienced those threads as a negative, misogynistic attack. But, no rules were broken so the debate continues.

Well like all of the currently popular comedians (I’m thinking the likes of Michael McIntyre, Rhod Gilbert, Sarah Millican and their ilk) some people will ‘get’ the humour and find them absolutely hilarious, whereas others are totally perplexed and will be wondering what the hell everyone else is laughing at!

At the end of the day it’s a fuck site and it’s really not worth getting upset about, take everything with a pinch of salt and enjoy the fucking aspect of the site, and not get wound up by the forum jesters!
