Thoughtful gestures

Someone I like very much did the sweetest, loveliest thing for me this last week and sent me a gift. Now whilst it’s not about the monetary spend (although that was way beyond my expectations), the effort behind the *what* it was, and the card accompanying it made me happy-cry, and someone going to that effort for me, was simply one of the kindest and most thoughtful things someone has done for me.

Do you take the time to do meaningful things for your good friends or those someones in your life that mean something to you? Or has someone made you a thoughtful gesture?

Share the happiness people.

Many years ago a friend at college presented me with a gift bag absolutely full of different premium beauty samples for my birthday - perfume testers, face creams, sachets of shampoo, miniature make up items and so on. She was, and had been, absolutely brassick for a couple of years after her husband left suddenly but had apparently spent the best part of a year, whenever she was out and about, turning on the charm and gathering all this stuff from different beauty counters. It was one of the best presents I'd ever had despite the fact it hadn't cost her anything in monetary terms - not only was it a treat to use the products but I was very touched she thought I was worth so much effort and forethought.

Oh I love that! It’s exactly that, the effort put in / thought taken to make it special for you. Have you done something similar for her?

I’m keen to do something as lovely back, but not in a twit for twat way. So I shall take time to think about it

Yes, now there’s a great gift. And a superb reminder.

Sadly we've since lost touch but at the time I guess I kind of supported her quite a bit with lifts to college and shopping I'd 'bought too much of' or which I told her was BOGOF. I'm sure she knew what I was doing but the little white lies ensured she kept her dignity. She was a great confidante when I had my own problems so more than paid me back

Last Christmas I was looking for one of the makeup advent calendars, they were expensive and I couldn’t find one I liked. Anyway a friend who I’ve not met but we’re part of a group put together a load of cosmetics, wrapped them up in numbers and sent me the parcel. All at cost to her. It was lovely opening each one and much more personal x

I love buying little thoughtful gifts, I have to stop myself lol! Someone sends me lovely gifts in the post when I least expect them. And the girls at the stables keep buying me loads of Xmas presents even when I tell them not to!

You are the epitome of thoughtful! Do you just gesture at people instead?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I have a very thoughtful friend who sends 'thinking of you' cards at difficult times of the year and rather extravagant presents. I do very little for her as she just won't accept it.

My gift to a friend was to tell him to leave his job to get his life and marriage back. He did, he's happier than he's been in years and sends me a thank you text every six weeks or so.

Lovely thread stelly, I almost started a similar one yesterday after a very good friend helped me out of a predicament I’d gotten myself into (yet again).

Not only did this person rescue me from it, he’s also offered advice and support for the future.

The fact that he listened without judgement and then acted to help when much older and closer friends have chosen to turn the other cheek has really bowled me over.

It’s really made me stop and think that so many people don’t realise they need help until someone that truly cares chooses to offer it.

Absolutely! And people forget what a gift a listening ear is too. I’m so glad he has been a good support for you, and that you leaned on him. Too often people feel they need to be stoical and it’s a wonderful gift to be able to help someone, it’s good for both giver and givee.

Hugs.

Almost daily, as I’m cycling to work a motorist does something which makes me give them a thoughtful gesture.

That’s a shame you don’t have any happy stories. Have a hug.
