mis-types and auto corrects leads cock leeds

People estimated to sleep rough every night ..

the government has launched a £100m program to eradicate it by 2027.

That works out at about £21000 each person. Not sure that ll buy a house in Leeds.

I’m going to have a wild stab in the dark and make a bold prediction that they don’t achieve their goal!

I hope they make serious inroads into the issue though as the problem is visibly getting worse in our towns and cities in my experience.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It's not new money. Half of it is already committed to projects/initiatives. Some is supposedly coming from underspend in other areas. The rest is supposed to come from the NHS.

It's a bit like the mental health spend announcements that make the headlines but lack detail.

I'm glad that they recognise that it no longer cuts it to say it's a local authority issue. Some of the money announced is tied up in local authority projects that were bid for last year but I don't think any of them were to address the new duties given to LAs.

I know the will is there...

I doubt few of any lot really give a shit.

For the most part politicians strike me as self-aggrandising narcissists who are more interested in whatever power, riches and influence they can accrue rather than any sense of civic duty or making the world a better place

In the run up to the 2012 Olympics the Mayor of London's office carried out a clean up campaign, including trimming or removing hedges to stop people sleeping under them, and sending people out of London.

Maybe it will be more like student accommodation less the luxuries, I can see the money going far seeing the development going up next to me, single bedrooms and joint kitchens and bathrooms, it could work, better than nothing like they have now

9 years to resolve this problem.

Way too long totally lacking ambition and will not happen.

Rough sleepers often have complex issues and simply housing them does not work. They often end up back on the street for many reasons where sadly far too many die.

The " social cost" to the state of one homeless person is already around £26000 to £30000 per year. And that's not solving the problem....

Some how I don't think £21k is going to change much....

I heard about someone in Brighton, he slept rough during the summer. Then got arrested so he could have a warm bed in prison for the winter.

There was a guy in Edinburgh slept outside Waverley Station. Ex Army PTSD. Found it impossible to live in a house. I saw him often talked to him from time to time. He died on the street outside the station December 2017...

I’ve had mates fall on hard times over the years and found themselves on the streets. Charities like SAAFA and the Legion have helped massively. Homelessness will never be eradicated I don’t think.

The money is to hire assassins to kill the homeless. Small investment now solves the problem.

It may not be eradicated but we had reduced the numbers to 100s 15 years ago.

The numbers don't include the hidden homeless.

You don't really believe that do you? regardless of how removed from the rest of us some of our politicians may seem, none of them are exactly Heinrich Himmler...

It won't work because a lot of homeless are ex servicemen with psychological issues.

Then there are those that are chemically dependent.

Many, damaged individuals who feel abandoned/ excluded from mainstream society to the point that they would rather die than accept aid.
