Indeed. And I’ve never felt the need for a big bushy beard or even a top-knot.

I’m now the ‘alternative’ to the mainstream by having none of the above.

I don’t know if tattoos are either rebellious or edgy, I like mine and I got them to mark significant feelings or things that I love permanently.

It’s part of modern sociology that there is no such thing as having no signifiers as to ‘what’ you are; how you dress or look shows something about you.

What one considers edgy another considers the norm. Personally I do what I like and let others make their judgement, it carries little significance to the decisions that I make

It does seem that way at the moment. I know one of my friends wants a tattoo but she won’t get one as its too popular at the moment. I’m like that too ( don’t like following trends). My tattoos were all done before everyone went med for them.

Why does it matter what other people are doing? Personally I think it’s great that tattoos are accepted now and aren’t seen as being the reserve of the violent or chavs.

Two of mine were done before it was popular to have them and before all these trendy artistic tattoos took off.

Which is why mine are quite shit.

I did want a full back tattoo like that lass in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo but i wasn’t sure it would look good with back fat rolls so i wussed out and had two lower back ones done.

I don’t regret them. I’ve had loads of compliments on my toe tattoo over the years when i’ve worn open toe shoes.

I have one. It’s covered most of the time. It means something. And I see it every morning to remind me. I have a new one booked in. This might be a bit more visible but none the less meaningful.

I had my eyebrow pierced years before it became popular (and before ‘5’) I removed it in an archery accident a while back but never put it back. Should have I think loosing it was the beginning of the end... now no-one has them

People like to think they're something special. Reality is, of you like a picture and want it on your body forever then do it wether it's 'popular' or not.

I have several tattoos that reflect my identity and things I like. I agree some may feel everyone has a tattoo but if it’s personal to the individual I think it’s nice if you get the design right. I have abstract tatts as I tried to get something different.

Most of mine were done before this latest trend... 20-30 years ago.

My most recent is completely original and I had it done just last Wednesday. The studio was busy with youngsters wanting quotes and song lyrics which appears to be the latest trend.

I haven't had any work done in around 4/5 years but I got my tattoos because I wanted to. Just like the clothes I wear may be on trend or they may be years old! I dress for me, not because someone says it's cool to.

Getting a tattoo because it's seen as a trend is ridiculous. Do you and screw what anyone else thinks.

I have no tattoos and the only reason for a beard was that i was too lazy to shave. However it made me look like Charles Manson, as for top knot (twat knot) i do not have enough hair on my head.

I don't have tattoos either. Sooo many women say "love a man with tattoos" these days but I won't be getting any because of that. It's strange how tattoos got so wildly popular over the last 20 years. It used to be working class men and the military that had them and now the majority seem to have a tattoo. I must admit it's a turn off when I see a woman plastered in tattoos. Though they're probably turned off by my lack of tattoos

I have zero tattoos and these days that is far more unique than it is to have them.

I’ve never had the urge to get one as I know I’d hate it quite quickly. I’ve seen some great ones on friends and family but I know I wouldn’t like it on me.

I have noticed this on Instagram a lot of people getting their tattoos lasered off.

I’ve noticed it with lip fillers aswell, loads of girls got it done, and plenty got it done when Kylie Jenner admitted to having it done, but now Kylie as dissolved some of hers I’ve noticed lots of girls recently doing the same.

I would say its just the norm to have tattoos these days. They neither attract or detract me from someone. I remember the days where only sailors and ex prisoners had tattoos. I had my first tattoo at 17 and my female friend had what would now be called a sleeve. Most unusual in those days

Ah, the hipsters with their man buns, man bags, monstrous beards and huge tattoo's on very thin arms.

Along with the skinny jeans and man bags it's not a good image at all. In the future they'll look back at the thousands of selfies they've posted on Facebook and cringe. Much like people who are now in their 60's look back with horror at platform shoes and tartan flares.

Watching a group of adults debating 'standing out' vs 'fitting in' is both sad and intriguing. How people choose to adorn and modify their bodies really is irrelevant, but the fact that we feel compelled to justify or 'understand' is just laughable.

And for those interested, my left leg is dedicated to covering scars whereas the rest of me is sheer artistic whimsy
