It's my father's funeral on Monday.

I hope and pray i can hold myself together through the service then at the graveside to make him proud .

You don't have to hold anything together.

Its ok to grieve and to show it.

My dad's a week on Tuesday. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It's the worst feeling ever in the world.

Somehow spending time on here is filling in the times that I would be moping around and really takes my mind off stuff, if only for a few hours.

I hope it goes as well as can be hoped xx

Sorry for your loss - I understand what you are going through.

I'm sure you want to do the "manly" thing but in this day and age I personally think that people would find it odd if you didn't show some emotion so don't worry about making your Dad proud - you are making him proud by honouring him.

I couldn't, it was my then, 12yro who held me up.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss, but this ^^ is spot on! Don’t hold it in. The first steps to getting over this is to let the grieving happen. Take care!

I think that somehow we get through these things. My Mum’s is pretty much a blur in my memory. Something we did was to have a book at the church entrance to record who attended (a close friend looked after it during the service) We’d never have taken in all who turned up and it’s kind of a nice thing to know who was there, on a really sad day to pay their respects.

Strength isn't about hiding your emotions. It's not a weakness to cry and to grieve.

The funeral is the public rite of death. It's a bit of a show because it's the thing people will comment on. Let people help you - don't feel you have to do everything - and live in the moment.

I didn't expect to be a blubbering wreck giving the eulogy at my mother's funeral but it's the bit that people now refer to as the thing that allowed them to shed a tear too.

Take time for yourself, take care of yourself and those around you.

Don't accept any pressure. It's most important now that you rest and heal, in your own way. I was devastated when my dad died and just eased myself along with the softness and comfort of others. Take things moment to moment, no pressure is likely better. Thoughts with you

I understand as I’ve lost both my parents, both sad events but both very different.

Take each day at a time, that helped for me.

I lost my dad two years ago (just before Xmas 2016) and every so often I hear a song or something that reminds me of the old boy. I used to feel really sad because it reminds me of the great, happy times. I didn’t cry at his funeral........ I carried him on his last journey, spoke about him at the service, but one thing I didn’t do was cry, I felt sad but couldn’t cry. It doesn’t matter if you do or don’t-there’s no right or wrong answer. Enjoy those memories of him in happier days ....... he will be; and always will be, incredibly proud
