..or petrichor, as it is also known.

It smells devine; invading the senses and feels amazing.

Who else is getting this, this evening?

Supposedly an evolved sensitivity to the smell - so we can identify fresh (running) water sources at a distance from the spray caused by streams/waterfalls/etc.

A world all of his own

It's trying to rain here and a little bit of a storm but it needs to pull its fucking socks up and try harder

...Up on the Downs

"..or petrichor, as it is also known."

Who knew!!!

'.. the smell derives from an oil exuded by certain plants during dry periods, whereupon it is absorbed by clay-based soils and rocks. During rain, the oil is released into the air along with another compound, geosmin, a metabolic by-product of certain actinobacteria, which is emitted by wet soil, producing the distinctive scent; ozone may also be present if there is lightning...'

We've had a slightly disappointing storm with regards to thunder and lightning. But the rain has been amazing. It's that proper wet rain, the sploshy stuff, smells amazing and sounds lovely as I'm laid in bed.

No bloody cooler though!

I smelt it in Turkey once and announced to the world it was gonna rain. The Turkish barman said it hadn’t rained in August, since 1973.

I took shelter alone.

How I laughed 10 minutes later, as a biblical shower drenched everyone and everything ??

Nothing reached us here yet but know the smell and love it too.

Moreso just as a big thunderstorm starts.
