Galileo first discovered Jupiter , well it’s moons in 1600s. That lead to the discovery of Jupiter. I’m a big astronomy geek

You would need about an additional 75 to 85 Jupiter masses to get fusion started though this would depend on how much hydrogen and helium are in the mix.

Once you got Jupiter to this size the line between brown dwarf and star a blurred....
