Do they simply sort out broken, stained and overworked nails? An old fashioned manicure without all that painting and polishing and fake stuff?

Yes, you can have them tidy up and put a clear varnish on if you want .

Don't know how they would sort out staining, but you can only ask.

Just be careful where you go, so many nail bars are keen to use electric drills/files and they are not good for natural nails as I learnt to my cost!

Insist that you’d rather they file/buff nails by hand, or check they would be willing to do so beforehand. I’m still growing out a fetching set of ridges on my nails from a manicure in June (almost there now!)

It's really easy to damage the nail bed with a Dremel - I have been bruised by a podiatrist before now, let alone a nail bar. I think it might be to do with the speed though, like a dentists drill and I definitely felt discomfort at the time.

Apparently there is a product you can get from Sally Hansen called Nail rehab that sorts out the staining on your nails..

Yes be careful of the electrical files, my one nail was badly damaged by one salon I went to as they filed it so thin and it took me ages to get it growing again. X
