Grangemouth

Hold your nose with your left hand, turn anti clockwise three times while chanting "ping ping ping the sting sting sting"....all will be well. Old wives tale I think.

Put a metal spoon in your mouth whilst you're chopping. It's meant to work apparently

"The onions are burning my eyes "

Are you planning on cooking those onions? Cause if you are, I'd say they were acting in self defence

The molecules relaeased by chopping onions are attracted to moisture. They react with water to create a burny acid hence irritating your eyes as that’s often the closest source. However the metal on the spoon you should suck binds the chemicals before they get a chance to get to the source of moisture. Science is wonderful.

Yeah but you look like a twonk with a spoon in your mouth.

What happens if you knick yourself cutting and you bite the spoon? Ouch!

Whoops *released. Gosh. Autocorrect is meant to help!

And if you knick yourself you’re probably a twonk (I love that word) anyhow.

I guess the spoon acts as a point of condensation because it will be be cooler than the surroundings.

derby

Fill a bowl full of water and submerge the onion then slice it up below the water just be careful of your fingers, I chopped an onion up today like that you can see the gas being released as you do it... no runny sore eyes..

Breathe through your mouth rather than your nose. Tried the spoon thing and that didn't work

"The onions are burning my eyes "

A match, head end out (unlit, obviously!) held between lips, helps.

Or wear swimming goggles...
