Nervous but excited

After a pretty rough June and July. I decided I am taking no more crap.. not from ex's... false friends or family.

Decided to do stuff for me and not give a fig about it... sooooo booked my first ever solo holiday...

I'm a nervous flyer and although been away a few times. First time on my own.

But really looking forward to the actual experience of just wandering around doing my own thing and just having some real me time.

So any ladies or gents for that matter got any tips for the solo traveller.

I'm off to my favourite place.. Italy. Booked my hotel in areas I've already been in and flying into Rome but flying home via Naples.

North West UK

I've been on 2/3 solo holidays and really enjoyed mingling with people. On each flight I ended up talking to someone who gave me tips on what to visit.

Plus when I was in Iceland I got chatting to some lovely people on day-trips and the like.

Enjoy, and in no way feel guilty.

I won't feel guilty at all. And as I talk to random people all the time I should be fine x

Camberley

If you're spending any time in Naples keep your hand on your purse, otherwise love the city and its people.

Noisy, dirty but full of hidden gems and wonderful people. I love it.

Nervous flyer

Take a deep breath and remember that the two at the pointy end and all those you don't see have a lot invested in getting you home safely. I'd be more concerned about the uber taxi to the airport.

Go for it and enjoy

Hey, fair play to you, I went on my first solo holiday last October, went over to Africa to learn how to surf, then January booked a plane ticket to Nepal and backpackd the Himalayas for a few weeks, best holiday I’ve ever been on.

Is a bit daunting when you first get in your hotel room, that’s when it first hit me, but everything will fall into place, you will love it

Nervous flyer? RELAX!

I'm an aircraft engineer and you really have nothing to worry about! Top tips, sit as close to the front as you can, its the smoothest place to be. Above the wings and you will here all the hydraulics whining and see the wings bouncing (They are meant to do that). At the back and it will be bumpy at landing as you are very close to the landing gear.

I could go on for hours but trust me you are ridiculously safe. And if you hit bad turbulence don't worry, the plane is automatically correcting itself (That's why you seem to jump up and down very quickly). Worst case the crew will just lower altitude to find clear air.

St Helens

You will have an amazing time!

I've driven to Switzerland alone and South of France. I've also flown to Shanghai for a cruise alone.

Love solo holidays. All my friends are married with children; so have to go alone. You do find yourself. Your confidence grows. You can be completely alone and if you wish to speak to people you can make the effort; but only if you want to.

Have fun

We’re all different so it’s hard to help, but I’ve had many holidays on my own.

You’ve done what I tend to do - go to an area you know, which will help.

With regards to others I prefer to keep myself to myself. I enjoy my own company and enjoy the very rare, well earned peace lol.

Having said that, there is never a shortage of friendly people if you’d rather chat to others.

My only advice, relax and enjoy, solo holidays are great xx

Hi there, I hope you have a great time. I have been considering doing the same thing for the first time and it is a bit daunting so good on you for getting out there and doing it! Hopefully I’ll have the nerve to do the same later this year. I’d love to hear how you get on, enjoy!!

Thanks all. And to those that shared privately.

I'm not doing hostels so not got the worries some have warned and I'm used to travelling around big cities. First thing you learn when using the London underground lots is keep your valuables close and well protected. I treat Naples and Rome the same.

My Italian is crap but good enough to understand and get across the basics...

I think I'm more worried about the flight than the being alone lol. I treated myself to a better hotel than I normally go for.

But thanks.

Under the Duvet

I've travelled all round central and south America alone.

I joined the couch surfing website before I went and was able to hook up with locals everywhere I went. Found loads of friendly people who were happy to show me round there home town, or give tips of where was best to go.

Might work for you? Happy travels

Hope you have a great time.

Say hello to Benini's Neptune for me.

And throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain for me. The wish....mine the fountain will know.

Yours. No more fear ....of anything.

Enjoy. x
