Interesting news to start off the summer break.

Didn't see Danny Ric moving to Renault but him and Hulk I'll make a good team.

Deffo curve ball.......... but I can’t fault Danny for jumping ship, might be a smart move going to a works team

Especially with the engine that Red Bull are getting next year.

I was hoping he'd go to Mercedes and get his championship

I think Hamilton scuppered that, Bottas isn’t much of a threat, and if he was, he’d get told otherwise. Danny will get no1 status at Renault I’m sure

I don't think anyone saw this coming. I guess time will tell if it's a genius move or not. But it definitely shows Renault are serious and are pushing hard to be become one of the top teams. Red Bull going with Honda next year may have played a part in his decision too. Nobody knows how that'll work out.

Haas, McLaren, TR and Williams are still yet to lock in a driver

And Kimi still hasn't signed a contract yet.

Could be a nice reshuffle there

he was either going to end up being no.2 at red bull basically being a gloried "kimi".. or no.1 at renault

i thought he would have ended up at mclaren... but i think this means alonso must be staying...

so does this mean carlos sainz ends up going to red bull as number 2......

Sainz is favourite to be going to McLaren according to Sky news. But I think he or Gasly will take up the Red Bull seat

Wow I knew Dan was never keen on Honda but this?

Hamilton hasn't vetoed anything, he's not one of the drivers most in need of testing against high end team mates.

Was hoping he could have gone to Ferrari, as Seb seems more beatable than Hamilton.

I'm sure Gasly needs some more work to do first.

Bit surprised Vandoorne seems so under threat, still only in his 2nd full season and averages only a few tenths off Alonso

Seeing as its the summer break, I will give some ratings out

Hamilton: Generally strong but a few slight off days maybe, done well to hold the points lead for now. - 9

Bottas: after a shaky start has stepped up his game. Misfortune has seen him fall by the wayside, to his great disappointment - 8

Vettel: Very fast and assured but still a bit flaky, cocking up a few times to lose the points lead - 9

Raikkonen: one of his better years for a while. Still no win and his race pace still sucks - 7.5

Ricciardo: Bit off the MAX pace but optimal job done - 8

Verstappen: Emerged from his rough patch and extremely fast but still to learn how to put a season together rather than having to win every race - 9

Perez - Overshadowed but still cannily getting the results when HD can - 7

Ocon: Quietly beating Perez without a headline result. Impressive under the radar - 8

Stroll: Oh dear not much to say but he keeps a horrible car on the road pretty well - 4

Sirotkin: Poor guy, works hard, good attitude, already matching Stroll in qualifying but falls away in races - 3

Hulkenberg - A consistently very strong season nevertheless with the odd off day - 8

Sainz - Trailing his teammate a bit - 7

Gasly - Some great performances punctuated by a tendency to come 11th - 6.5

Hartley: Almost no clean weekends at all. Needs a good result and things to come together - 4.5

Grosjean: Beaten by KMag and its getting to him. Shouts a lot. Great 4th in Austria though - 5.5

Magnussen: Consistent all year bringing home a bumper points haul. Really stepped up his game this year. Slightly insane in combat however. 7.5

Alonso: Poor guy what did he do to deserve all this? I've never ever known any driver who would still be fighting and not lose heart after all this. Not Hamilton. Certainly not Vettel. Even Ricciardo would have completely lost his smile and turned into a sourpuss by now. Fernando is an inspiration to me. Great job in Baku driving half a car to the pits - 9.5

Vandoorne: Needs to be given a break but could maybe show a bit more fight at times. Disappointingly not "going forward" in races enough - 6

Ericsson: Underrated IMO, he's reached a pretty good level now - 5.5

Leclerc: Amazing how he was written off after the first 2 raves already - talk about impatient! Since then has starred all season - 7

Ratings are a measure of how I think they've actually performed (so rookies would obviously have a lower score since they can improve), rather than how impressive they've been compared to expectations, which is even more subjective.

GOING FORWARD

Ferrari have clearly the best car overall IMO but not by a huge amount, comparable to 2008. Mercedes have the odd day clearly in front but generally on the backfoot. They're ahead by cannily hoovering up results but I think Seb and Ferrari will inevitably pull clear and stumble over the line to become champs, but I've been wrong before.

What's going to happen to Force India now? They were always going to fall apart eventually, it was taken for granted they could just keep going how they were, but I'm impressed how long and hard they went before it all caught up with them.

20 cars on the grid is shite IMO, bring back Simtek, Forti and Pacific, but especially Arrows and Prost/Ligier

Renault said the team will get a budget upgrade if targets are met. So far so good. They won in 05 and 06 on the cheap, might have only been 6th highest budget out of 10/11!

Sausage fest post for sure but I would love to see hamilton in one of the other teams but you can't Debi when the Germans team up with bits it's goes well!
