on the road to nowhere in particular

They all hatch on the same day, fly up to 10,000 feet, procreate and die

...Up on the Downs

I've just googled the life cycle - they fly off and have an orgy, and then the mated females drop their wings and start a new colony....well not in my garden misses!

"Think they only live for a day"

Apparently 'Ant colonies can be long-lived. The queens can live for up to 30 years, and workers live from 1 to 3 years. Males, however, are more transitory, being quite short-lived and surviving for only a few weeks.[64] Ant queens are estimated to live 100 times as long as solitary insects of a similar size...'

NIMBY!!!

The ones you killed won't be flying off anywhere.

They'll be on the lawn, clutching their little chests, drawing their last breath, looking at the heavens and thinking of the thousands of loved ones they are going to meet up there.
