Sorry, this is another sport's thread

We have running and cycling threads on here , but I haven't seen a swimming one.

Do we have many confident swimmers on here? Any poor swimmers (me!) who want to improve?

I live swimming and should do more but don't have the time right now.

I did a tri course earlier this year which focuses on each discipline separately and I think the swimming was the best part for me. I really improved my front crawl so much so that I managed to do a mile all front crawl which I was thrilled with.

I want to do more open watwr swimming but need to invest in a wetsuit fir it and I'm not the right shape for one just yet. Plus I'd need to get rid of my nails and not sure I can right now lol

I’m a good swimmer and have just started going again for the past 6 months. Really enjoying it and it’s helped loads with my joint pain. My Mum wasn’t confident in water, so she made us go to a club as kids. At times I hated going, but I’m glad she did that now.

I'm not a particularly strong swimmer but I do enjoy it. Over the last few weeks I have started going and it has helped me to lose a bit of timber and find good head space.

My stroke is all out of whack and needs some work.

Where I go, they have adult improvement sessions. If they do that at your pool, maybe give it a try?

I've never been a good swimmer, always looked like I was drowning

I now can't swim properly due to problems with my neck. However I'm thinking of going again and using a noodle. I need to take my son as his bones are growing faster than his tendons and muscles and I think this will help him.

In my head I swim like Thorpey...video analysis proves I look like an old man drowning. Running..in my head Gebrie Salassi..video analysis shows an old man stumbling along..ho hum.

A world all of his own

Up until 2 years ago when I moved I swam regularly, 2-3 times a week either 64 or 80 lengths.

I started swimming as 20 odd years of badminton had took it's toll on my knees (high impact) and could no longer play it so needed something to keep in shape. Kinda lol.

Sadly since moving I don't seem to find any bloody free time which is annoying as I do miss swimming.

I'm a strong and confident swimmer. As a kid my mum liked telling people that I could swim before I could walk.

I don't go swimming often enough, it's something I'm going to try doing regularly after I have an op on my knee in a couple of weeks. When I do go, I can do a mile which is pretty good going for a fatty like me, even if I do have jelly legs after

I used to love swimming since I was 8 my mum taught cub an scouts when I was a member and I loved it. As grown up I stopped doing it as much due to preferring to run long distances and enter races.

Due to my knee injury and having to have an operation running days are over so now once wound healed enough going to go back to swimming to help strengthen my leg and also part of loosing weight I’ve gained in past 8 weeks

No, it's really not!

Not long before I stopped, one afternoon there was a young woman there, late teens early 20s. Fuck me she was related to flipper

In the time it took me to do 64 lengths I'd hazard a guess that she did somewhere near 130 lengths or maybe even more. She was overtaking me when I was doing front crawl and she was doing breast stroke! Absolutely amazing to watch

Getting access to a pool at a decent time can be difficult

Mornings is swim club, daytimes - schools, after schools - lessons, then swim club again...

weekends free swim for kids ie impossible to swim

I've started wild swimming this summer, as it's just a hop over the wall and less than 50m to the Wye

Freedom to swim, and you can push yourself against the current, and then drift back

Love swimming, good swimmer club level.

Well up until I injured myself ironically"swimming"

Fooked up my shoulder and haven't been able to swim for a couple of years and not at all this year, recovering from surgery so hopefully I will be back in the pool for the winter and ready for ow next year.

Done literally thousands of lengths over the years and lots of long distance ow swimming.

Honestly there are few things better than being in a nice calm lake or river or sea peaceful and still no one else around and just the sound of your breathing and your arms and legs moving through the water.

I also absolutely love swimming in rough seas with big swells body surfing through the waves.
