I have reported drink drivers to the police before, so I would certainly do the same for an uninsured driver."

Maybe you could tell the police after he crashes and maims a bloke who then can’t work, loses his house etc. You can sleep well at night knowing you could have prevented that......but chose not to because you were scared.

Report it anonymously. The insurance database is accessable by anyone at any time.could have been anyone. Police will probably pull him and claim ANPR found it. Only way that doesn't work is if the vehicle is insured by someone else.

ive suspected them for a while but i went on askmid.com the motor insurance database and coming up as not insured.

Thought anpr only did tax

Report him anonymously to the police. Even if you did give your name they shouldn't be passing that info on to the driver anyway.

But this driver obviously doesn't give a shit about the potential consequences of not being insured.

Nah, I've driven round for 10 months with no tax and I didn't even know until I sold my old car. Insurance on the other hand is a big one. I've been in the passenger seat of a traffic police vehicle when I worked in the prison and they don't even have to scan anything or do anything manually they just have a display on the dash which flashes up with info on every single vehicle they pass, they have cameras on the front and back registration plates.

Lot of money in it for no insurance, they can sieze the vehicle there and then and slap you with a few hundred quid fine then daily fees whilst car is in the pound till you collect it and produce valid insurance papers for it.

I couldnt drive for more than a couple of miles without being pinged by a camera or stopped by a police car.

The person in question will i assume be stopped rather quickly and then pay the penalty.

I'd just phone my local police station with name and vehicle details, and any usual movement habits like commuting. You've done your bit then, the ball is in the polices court.

Can't you just tell the guy to get insurance? What's his circumstances, does he have a family, is he a single guy living with parents, like if he can't afford insurance or any other reason other than being stupid, then you could essentially fuck up his life. They will take his vehicle they will charge him a few 100 quid for the recovery truck and daily fees.

Him having insurance or not does not have any baring on his ability to drive and the prospect of killing or injuring someone. I'd have to give him a friendly warning. He hits someone and damages their car that's not your fault, it would have happened if he was insured or not. You directly getting him in to trouble is solely your own actions.

I'd have to find out why he has no insurance and then say to him look mate I don't like the fact that I pay my insurance but you don't.

What if he has a motobility car and the car is insured by the person who requires the vehicle and he's only a named driver or even if it's a normal car yet someone else is the policy holder and he's only a named driver?

If you're hit by an uninsured driver you need to claim on your own insurance. If you only have third party insurance you won't be covered, meaning that in the worst case if your car is written off you've lost it, in any case you'll have to foot the bill for repairs.

I don't think that's fair.

I thought you had to have valid mot and insurance to tax a car, this raises the possibility that the cars not taxed or has an mot. Although I realise there are loopholes in that.

ive checked she has mot an tax i think shes took ot the policy till theyve released the certificate then shes cancelled it

Take the registration number of the suspect vehicle. -You don't even need description, make and model.

Ring crime stoppers,- it's a freephone 0800 number, listed in the telephone directory and online as well. If you are worried the calls may be traced back to you then use a payphone.

Or someone that's struggling and missed payments and their policy has cancelled. I think giving the person a chance to sort it out themselves first would be the option. Anything to do with money and getting someone in actual real trouble with the law is a bit shit.

What if they're a new driver and then they get a few hundred quid fine then the 6 points then that's their licence gone if they've not been driving over a year.

You did the right thing reporting it though chances are they won't do shit unless they see it on the road.

Our previous neighbour was uninsured, untaxed and would drive home from the pub pissed up, could have thrown a stone and been home quicker it was literally at the end of the road! The police couldn't do anything until he was physically seen on the road apparently and it seems that was a tough task as he continued to go about his merry way for quite some time after we reported him.

No, if a person's actions are only likely to cause harm to themselves i couldn't care less. However, if their actions are likely to cause harm to others then the only thing to do is to try to put a stop to it.

It's not nice being hit by an uninsured driver, as were we. My husband had to give up work through his injuries, yes it could still have happened if the other driver was insured, but it took 5 years to receive compensation, through the MIB. Report him!!

Obviously hitting someone and injuring/killing them is worse case scenario and would be terrible but even if the person you know just drove into someone's car, that would be bad enough.

As a family we don't have a huge amount of disposable income and I would be gutted to get hit by an uninsured driver and left to foot the bill
