Should we have a duty to NOT be offended?

Don't like what you see? Turn away!

Don't like what you hear? Walk away?

Are we trying hard enough?

Yes. People who are constantly offended on here need to get a life and not come here for attention.

It's not attractive. Stop it.

Now.

I rarely get offended. I’m just opinionated, and people like to say I’m offended because they disagree with me and they can’t defend their points.

The irony is, people who use the term snowflake are usually the ones who are outraged the most

I’ve always wondered on a similar subject...

Firstly, If offended then “turn over the channel” - I agree.

However...it does seem that many people confuse “I’ve got freedom of speech” with “No you haven't - if it breaks the law”.

Hmmmm????

It's true, and that they can't see it is hilarious. The Express and the Mail howl their offence at the slightest thing that might be out of the ordinary.

Surely you are not suggesting that people take responsibility for their own feelings, and not put the burden of responsibility elsewhere?

Outrageous!

Minorities need allies for the world to change for the better.

Granted there's a plethora of madness (especially from millennials) but surely if racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, ignorance and general hatefulness etc goes unopposed, then we cease to progress

Many people think "freedom of speech" means that they can say what they like, consequence free.

Sadly for them, everyone else has freedom of speech too, and they can use it to disagree....

Unfortunately, I think the world will always have minorities, it's just the demographic that changes, not human nature.

Agreed... unless when content is racist or similar... that’s a criminal offence.

Just in case anyone needed a reminder

Sometimes I am genuinely offended by offensive comments. Why shouldn't rude people be called out on their lack of manners?

Oh, I think people can be pretty racist without crossing into "hate speech". In spite of them wanting sympathy for "not being allowed" to make racist comments anymore.

somewhere in the Shire of Derby

Sometimes things have to be addressed and tackled. Bullies and abusers like it when people don't stick up for themselves or do nothing. They don't like it when people have had enough and stand their ground and actually stick up for themselves.

East Sussex

I'm on the point of leaving a Facebook group I'm on because of the offence taken at all sorts of things.

Someone ran over a seagulls and didn't stop to pick it up.

Someone took their dog for a walk in hot weather.

Someone in a red car was driving too fast slow in a certain road.

The bin men turn up too early/late.

I could go on.

I'm happy for people to take offence and will take offence myself but it has to be about something important.
