Den of Iniquity

As of yesterday every time I take Pooch out I am now picking up at least one piece of discarded plastic off the streets and taking it home to put in the recycling . Is anyone else going to try this with me . It won't dent the problem but if we all do it , it just might

I regularly pick up discarded litter outside my house with a litter picker. Why people just can't put it in a bin or take it home.

It might work if the recycled stuff was actually recycled, as it usually ends up in landfill or shipped abroad to end up in landfill

A house, a very big house in the country

This got me thinking about a programme i saw advertised.

My family and The Galapagos.

Channel 4 at 20:00 tomorrow.

https://youtu.be/GgPcvLuUy_o

It looks like it's unfortunately a problem even over there too.

Well done Op. Superb job.

I'm reducing my plastic use by using Lush shampoo bars at the moment. They supposedly last as long as three big bottles of shampoo and use no plastic at all, you just buy a reusable metal tin for them instead.

Love this idea.

When we go to our park I litter pick as we go. Makes me so angry when lazy, selfish arseholes dump their litter everywhere when there are so many bins close by.

Can I just ask op? When you walk pooch he/she does their business, do you pick it up in a plastic bag and throw it in the landfill bin?

Are the bags bio-degradable?

I buy a big pack of 100 bio degradable for just a quid . I'm not here preaching btw . I drink plastic bottles of water like most of us . But it's just chucking them in a bush or on the street that fucks me off

Was just a genuine enquiry.

Way too much plastic is used in my opinion.

I also have plastic bottles but I reuse them until they die .

It's also surprising what you can make with an old plastic bottle and an iron!!!

Bravo! More people should do this. I was walking along the shore the other evening after a busy day of beach revellers when I came across a massive pile of plastic trash, bags, cartons, bottles, burst inflatables, plus cans all just tucked away in the shade of one of the groynes just by the waters edge... in the hope that no one would notice it

I was also a bit miffed that none of the other "adults" on the beach, and there were still plenty of them, hadn't thought to pick it up and take it to the big bin barely 30 footsteps away at the top of the beach. I guess they were just going to leave it there to get washed out to sea as a matter of principle. Some principle?

I binned it. I've been thinking I might wander down there and try to do that more often

As well as picking up an extra piece of plastic why not use less plastic when we go shopping. Buy loose fruit and veg and put it in your shopping bag without putting it in another plastic bag first. Some places will now let you take containers for fish and meat as well.

Lots of things used to be in paper bags or loose that are now wrapped in plastic.

Did this in the park on Weds, filled a (discarded) carrier bag. We do regular picks on my road also. It's very satisfying.

I keep my village clear of all litter and also pick up dog poo left on paths. It's a gross job but if I don't do it, it just gets left. I'm trying to catch the people who regularly park their car at the sports field , eat Macky D's, then chuck everything out the car window. There is a bin there! Pure ignorance.

"I'm reducing my plastic use by using Lush shampoo bars at the moment. They supposedly last as long as three big bottles of shampoo and use no plastic at all, you just buy a reusable metal tin for them instead. "

I moved to shampoo bars, conditioner bars and soap bars earlier this year. The shampoo bars last much longer than 3 shampoo bottles. The conditioners last ages but aren't that easy to use, so I'm currently supplementing them with the conditioners still in the toiletries store cupboard.

Olive oil soap is better than anything I've ever used. It doesn't dry you, leaves you squeaky clean and lasts for ages.

I think I have avoided adding 12 plastic bottles to the pile since I started.

I also pick up litter.

Cornwall

I usually go for walks with a bag (paper) which I can usually fill, Sometimes get looked at very strangely by the passing public. Amazes me how many McD meals seem to be bought, a few bites eaten & most of the meal, drink & packaging thrown out the car.

Beaches are my current gripe with the waste left behind. So much plastic, cartons & glass (often broken), even hot charcoal from "disposable" bbq's just thrown across the beach.

The thread has examples of many people picking up litter.

There needs to be some education with packing meat. Saw an article a while ago where people were getting ill because they were reusing bags that had raw meat in them..
