"These sort of things make me laugh. When i was a kid i remember the grown ups saying that same kind of thing about us. How better their childhooda were etc.. In 20 years the kids of today will say the same to their offspring. I think all generations have their good and bad points. Abuse was swept under the carpet when i was a kid. Kids with special needs were segregated really and not in mainstream schools. If you werent popular then you could become isolated Bullying was ignored So on and so forth" You missed the point, I’m not saying it’s better, I’m saying it’s healthier for kids to be kids and not worrying about fads and trends on the internet. Also nothing has come close to influencing our lives more than the internet and modern technology. This is not a ‘it was better in my day’ rant. I just think it was healthy that we knew what the world was like before social media etc This is why we’ve ended up with ‘safe spaces’ at university and people disciding they want to be called ‘they’ instead of he or she, cause we’ve pandered to this bullshit and hysteria caused by online pressure.

"I think we’re losing the art of being in the moment, just appreciating something for what it is, instead of thinking I’ll post this on Facebook. It’s not enough to just do something, you have to show people you were there doing it. " There was a comment like this on a thread the other week. I think it was about being happy. Love it.

"Do you remember when we want our friends to admire a photo of our dinner we had to dig out the camera, take a snap, wind on the film to take another from a different angle, then use up the roll by taking snaps of the dog. Pop down Boots (other chemists available) fill out the form, pay your money then wait a couple of days, I was cheap I never paid for express processing, then take the pics round to all your friends so they could give it the thumbs up. No me neither. Don't understand this thing about pics of my food, especially half eaten as they forgot to take the pic before they started chomping." People taking pictures of the food when I'm out to dinner with them annoys me. Why can't we admire the food by eating it and continuing the conversation we were having before it arrived?

"I think there is a problem that starts with adults. Very young children, babies and toddlers, are handed phones and tablets to keep them quiet. They see us glued to our devices and naturally copy that. It is how they learn. Then we blame the internet and the devices for them not having the childhoods we had. My childhood was spent locked away. We weren't allowed out to play often. We were locked in, on our own, during the school holidays. I was five and looking after my 3 year old sister. A way of connecting with the world might have been good. "

"I was born in 1991 and didn't really start using the Internet until I was about 18 (besides porn haha) I joined Facebook at like 19 and that's the only real social media site I'm on. I filled my younger days playing soccer, climbing shit and basically just hanging about with friends outdoors. I wish it was still like that but the Internet has got me all the girls I've had basically haha. " That last bit is the bit I worry about. I am pleased the older one has had all his girlfriends from meeting them in life away from the 'net. I doubt the same will be true of his younger brothers as they meet people and immediately swap usernames to connect with them virtually.

" No I loved spending my spare time out on my bike with my mates, playing footy using jumpers as goal posts and playing cricket endlessly during the summer hols. Making dens in the woods and generally having loads of fun and exercise. I’m glad I didn’t even have a calculator until after my O levels" I learned to use a slide rule and log and trig tables instead ????

Online where you're more than likely sober, can see their interests and can chat a little is better than in a pub where both are hammered. I know you can meet them anywhere not only pubs but to me it doesn't really matter.

I’m not saying technology isn’t a good thing, but I think it’s healthy just to be out smelling the flowers and just being a kid. "Would have loved the technology we have now. Meeting up in a group was so damn difficult as a child because nobody had a mobile phone to tell you if they were running late or not coming, once you left the house then that was hit. Most group meetups had about half their duration wasted by simply waiting for everyone to get to the location. It was shit. " I love technology and the inter web, but I’m glad I experienced life without it. Just so you had that perspective.

At age 11, nobody had a mobile phone and by 16, everyone did. It'll be hard for people younger to understand certain reasons why things are the way they are. For example, younger people will wonder why older people think a sign of intelligence is the ability to recall facts without the use of Google, a near-useless skill today. The whole concept of a game show like who wants to be a millionaire seems highly contrived now.

Today’s technology does have huge advantages we can’t deny, but it has made the youth of today lazy and not appreciate nature in the way we did when we were young and long before the internet took over the world!

Ha ha. I think every technology that went viral, did so because of sex. Porn is the only reason every household with a man demanded high internet speeds. Mobile phones enabled you to arrange a hook up with girls via text and the world was never the same again.

I loved my childhood, it’s part of my make up and I wouldn’t change it. However, would it have been even better if I’d had what my kids have now, possibly.
