My first holiday abroad for 14 years, to Gran Canaria.

I'm not looking forward to the flights or the heat, or the trips up and down the cliff to the beach.

I'm hoping the complex's pools and food will make up for it.

Not sure yet, we're running Marathon du Medoc with it's 23 wine stops in Bordeaux and the day after catching a train to Paris but how much we do there will depend on how shattered we are!

I've got a small house in France so spend all summer there but don't really consider it a holiday, just a second home. I don't like very hot weather so can't wait for the rain to re-fresh the air.

I then go somewhere for xmas/new year to escape the cold - last year it was southern India, this year Morocco.

I like the Second World War stuff in France, loads of museums and bunkers and gun emplacements plus D-Day beaches. One of my ancestors got killed at Anzio so I’d like to go there. Pompeii is mindnumbling awesome. Like timetravel.

So far Montenegro and Cornwall booked. Just need to decide and finalise where we're going for main family holiday. Thinking Turkey or Canaries roll on the sunshine!
